Acer Launches Predator Orion 9000 Intel Core X Gaming Desktop Monster Alongside World's Thinnest Notebook At CES 2018
Acer is unveiling some cool new hardware at CES 2018 and among that new hardware is the Acer Swift 7 (SF714-51). That laptop is being billed as the thinnest PC in the world with a profile just 8.98mm thick. Despite its svelte profile, the machine does have an Intel Core i7 processor under the hood.
Acer also integrates 4G LTE connectivity and crams all that hardware inside an all-black unibody aluminum chassis complete with a 14-inch Full HD touch display covered in Corning Gorilla Glass . The internal battery promises 10 hours of runtime per charge, and Acer says that the Swift 7 will launch in March starting at $1699.
Acer is also showing off the Nitro 5 notebook aimed at causal gamers. This machine takes advantage of AMD Radeon RX560 graphics and uses the latest Ryzen mobile processors inside backed by up to 32GB of DDR4 RAM. Storage is handled by a 512GB SSD and the machine has a laser textured top cover and a matte crimson red hinge.
The screen is a 15.6-inch Full HD IPS unit with a front facing webcam in the bezel. Integrated audio supports Dolby Audio Premium and Acer TrueHarmony technology, while connectivity includes a USB-C port, GbE, HDMI 2.0, and more. The Acer Nitro 5 will launch in April starting at $799.
The Spin 3 (SP314-51) laptop has been updated with support for 8th generation Intel Core processors and has a 14-inch full HD display. It still has the 360-degree hinge that allows functionality in four different mode and promises up to 12 hours of battery life. The updated Spin 3 will launch in February starting at $599.
Acer has a new Chromebook 11 that promises up to 10 hours of runtime per charge and has a silent, fanless design. The machine sports a pair of USB 3.1 type-C ports for charging, data transfer, and display output and the machine can be had with a touch display and both display options share the same 1355 x 768 resolution. Google Play will be fully supported at launch. The display is an 11.6-inch unit and Acer crams 4GB of RAM inside and either 16GB or 32GB of eMMC storage. Acer will launch the Chromebook 11 line in April starting at $249.
Acer's Switch 7 Black Edition is billed as the world's first fanless 2-in-1 notebook computer with discrete graphics inside. It supports 8th generation Intel Core processors and has Dual LiquidLoop fanless liquid cooling tech inside. The machine is aimed at professionals, content creators, and "serious students" according to Acer. The Switch 7 Black Edition has an AutoStand patented kickstand, under-glass fingerprint scanner, and the 13.5-inch screen has native 2256 x 15504 resolution. Acer also throws in a Wacom Stylus.
The discrete GPU is an NVIDIA GeForce MX150 unit, and Acer promises an 8-hour battery life per charge and the machine is 9.99 mm thick and weighs 2.6 pounds with the keyboard detached. The first available Switch 7 Black Edition model will have an 8th gen Core i7-8550U processor at 1.8GHz with Turbo Boost up to 4.0GHz, 16GB of LPDDR4 RAM, and a 512GB SSD. It will launch this month starting at $1699.
The last of the new computers is the Predator Orion 9000 series desktop aimed at gamers. The gaming desktop has a black and silver chassis with customizable RGB lighting along the bezel. It also has a big side window to show off the hardware inside. The desktop has up to an Intel Core i9 Extreme Edition processor with 18 cores and 36 threads and up to dual NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti graphics. Acer's IceTunnel 2.0 liquid cooling system keeps the machine running cool. Pricing starts at $1,999 and you can bet a fully optioned rig will be much more expensive than that. Predator Orion 9000 desktops launch in February.
