Acer Brings Intel Kaby Lake Goodness To Switch 3 And Switch 5 2-In-1 One Family

Acer just unveiled their new Switch 3 and Switch 5 2-in-1 hybrid notebook convertibles. The thin and light devices now pack Intel Kaby Lake processors, a completely fanless cooling system, and Acer Active Pen. Acer claims that various features of the hybrids will also help boost productivity at work, school, and for fun.

James Lin, General Manager of Commercial & Detachable Notebooks, IT Products Business for Acer, remarked, “Acer’s Switch line is now able to reach more customers, whether they are looking for something that provides the latest in performance and features, or if they need a more accessible option for studies, work and play.”

The Switch 5 is Acer’s first two-in-one notebook to offer 7 Generation Intel Core i7 and i5 processors. The device also includes a built-in fingerprint reader on the power button, Acer TrueHarmony and Smart Amplifier audio, and an auto-retractable kickstand. The Switch 5 boasts 12-inch wide-view FHD+ touch display with IPS technology and provides 2160 x 1440 resolution with support from Intel HD Graphics 620. To top everything off, the device also features Acer’s proprietary LiquidLoop fanless cooling system  that is completely silent and does not require venting. The low power devices with Intel Kaby Lake processor on board, coupled with a fanless cooling solution is able to deliver up to 10.5 hours of battery life.

The Switch 3 includes Intel Pentium and Intel Celeron processors. It features a 12.2-inch display with IPS technology and “a responsive 10-point touch experience.” The device incorporates a wide 178-degree viewing angle and 1920x1200 FHD resolution. The Acer Switch 3 also won the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2017 which honors products with exceptional design quality.

Both the Switch 5 and 3 feature a detachable keyboard, anti-slip design, and stable kickstand. The Switch 5 supports a 256GB or 512GB PCIe SSD and up to 8GB of LPDDR3 SDRAM, while the Switch 3 supports 32GB, 64GB or 128GB eMMC memory and up to 4GB of LPDDR3 SDRAM. Both devices include a MicroSDXC slot USB 3.1 Type-C port. Customers can add a USB-C Dock to the Switch 5. Both the Switch 5 and 3 also work with Acer Active Pen which Acer boasts "enables accurate and detailed direct-to-screen digital ink input for a natural pen-on-paper experience.”

The Switch 5 will be available in North America in June 2017 for $799 USD while the Switch 3 will ring in at $399 USD.
