Samsung's 6.3-inch Galaxy Mega Sets Foot in the U.S., Leaves a Phablet Sized Footprint
We first caught wind of the Samsung's large size Galaxy Mega back in April, and then this past weekend, leaked photos showed the 6.3-inch phablet running on AT&T's network. So what's the latest on this giant size hybrid smartphone/tablet device? Well, Samsung just announced that the Galaxy Mega has made it to the U.S. market.
"We continue to bring innovation with our Galaxy family of devices, with the Galaxy Mega representing a manifestation of consumer’s enthusiasm for our thin, large screen designs," said Nick DiCarlo, vice president of product planning and marketing at Samsung Mobile. "The Galaxy Mega combines exceptional features from the Samsung Galaxy smartphone family with a 6.3-inch screen, making it an optimal device for movies, books, music and games."
Obviously the massive display is the star of the show, and towards that end, the 6.3-inch HD Super Clear panel wields a 1280x720 resolution. Underneath the hood you'll find a 1.7GHz dual-core processor, 1.5GB of RAM, 8MP rear-facing camera, 1.9MP front-facing camera, microSD card slot, and a 3,200 mAh battery for extended use on a single charge. Android 4.2.2 (Jelly Bean) comes standard.
According to separate press releases, Sprint will carry the Galaxy Mega sometime "later this year," while AT&T is geared up to offer the device on August 23rd for $24 per month with AT&T Next or $150 with a 2-year service agreement.
