HTC America Lays Off 20 Percent of Workforce
Things have changed, and rather than rolling in the dough, HTC is making tough decisions, such as laying off 20 percent of its HTC America division, The Verge reports. President of HTC Americas, Jason Mackenzie, told his team that Friday -- the day pink slips were handed out -- was "the most difficult day of my HTC career."
"Today's reduction in force is a decisive action by HTC Corp (US) to streamline and optimize our organization and improve efficiencies after several years of aggressive growth. Realigning its human resources against key strategic initiatives will help HTC more effectively advance into a new stage of growth and innovation," HTC said in a statement.
HTC also said that as hard as it was to let employees ago, it was a "necessary step to drive ongoing innovation" and to ensure it's able to create desirable products like the HTC One.
Prior to the layoffs, the HTC America division was home to around 150 employees and contractors.Around 30 of those employees were laid off, though some of them may find open positions elsewhere under HTC's umbrella.
