Apple CEO Cook Notes Company Planning Additional 25 Stores In China In Next Two Years

Despite some fingers being pointed at China for some recent “man-in-the-middle” attacks on Apple, the company is still looking to expand its presence there. Apple CEO Tim Cook spoke to Chinese news portal Sina.com stating that the company plans to add 25 Apple-brand retail stores in Greater China within two years.

Tim Cook also went on to talk about how the company will also increase its investment in China by an undisclosed amount. According to the website, Cook sees a lot of potential in China and that it could be the company’s biggest source of revenue saying, “In the future, China will become Apple’s biggest revenue contributor. It’s just a matter of time.”

Cook’s statement falls in line with what Apple is planning and what he said during the company’s fourth-quarter earnings call, which the company reported raking in record revenue, where he said, “We’re investing like crazy in the market. When I look at China, I see an enormous market where there are more people graduating into the middle class than any nation on Earth in history.”

Apple currently has 15 stores and around 7,000 employees which serves around 750,000 customers a day.

The Apple CEO has been making the rounds in China. On Wednesday, he met with China’s Vice Premier Ma Kai to talk about improving cooperation in the telecommunication industry and is expected to meet with Alibaba Group Holding Ltd founder Jack Ma on Monday. Alibaba is a Chinese e-commerce business which was able to raise $25 billion in its initial U.S. public offering.
