A Million Samsung Galaxy Owners Get First Dibs on Jay-Z's New Album on July 4

Good news, Jay-Z fans. The hip-hop artist and part owner of the NBA's Brooklyn Nets is back with a new album titled "Magna Carta Holy Grail." It's due to release on July 4, 2014, and it will feature various artists such as Drake, Nas, and Justin Timberlake, all of whom have been working on the album. As a special treat to certain Galaxy owners, Samsung is giving away a million copies of the album three days before the album's launch.

"To be eligible, a user must download the Magna Carta app that will be released on June 24 from the Galaxy S III, Galaxy S4, and the Galaxy Note II and in addition to giving some insight on the creation of the album, the app will unlock the full album on July 4 to the first million Galaxy users," Samsung says.

Samsung reportedly paid $5 million for the rights to give "Magna Carta Holy Grail" away to a million Galaxy owners, according to a "person familiar with the matter" who spoke with The Wall Street Journal. Samsung's hope is that promotions like this will help it compete with Apple and draw smartphone shoppers over to its Galaxy line as opposed to the iPhone.

The upside for Jay-Z is obvious. He generates a quick and easy $5 million days before his new album launches, and attaches himself to a hip brand in the process.
