Travis Kalanick is the embattled former CEO of ride-hailing service Uber. He stepped down from his post as CEO of the company last summer after investors sent him a letter demanding his immediate resignation (although he remained on the board of the company). Kalanick said at the time, "I love Uber more than anything in the world and at this difficult moment in my personal life I have accepted the investors request to step aside so that Uber can go back to building rather than be distracted with another fight." Following months of turmoil, Travis Kalanick has decided to resign as the chief executive officer of Uber, the popular ride-hailing startup he co-founded in 2009 en route to disrupting public transportation as it existed before then. His resignation follows an announcement last week that he would be taking an indefinite leave of absence after his mother perished in a boating accident. The planned hiatus was not enough to appease Uber's investors. Five of Uber's biggest shareholders, including venture capital firm Benchmark, the largest stakeholder of them all, wrote a letter to Kalanick demanding that he step down as CEO. Uber and its leadership does not exactly have the greatest reputation. Uber is being sued by Google for allegedly stealing its Waymo self-driving car technology, the company has been accused of attempting to evade law enforcement, and there have been a number of complaints regarding sexual harassment.
