To keep that momentum going, Microsoft is reportedly making some changes to its Surface Book and Surface Pro 6 families to make them more appealing to customers. Surface Book 2 As it currently stands, the cheapest way to get 16GB of RAM on a Surface Book 2 is by opting for a 256GB SSD and an Intel Core i7 processors for the 15-inch model. That configuration will set you back a whopping $2,499. As for the Surface Pro 6, your cheapest ticket to 16GB of RAM... Read more...
While we are likely a while away from a true replacement for the replacement for the Surface Pro 6, a patent application has surfaced that hints at one of the features of the next-gen device. The patent application describes fancy new hinges for the critical integrated kickstand that props the tablet portion of the device up when users are typing with the removable keyboard or watching video on the device in tablet mode.  On the current Surface Pro 6, the kickstand uses friction created by the hinges to stop and stay at whatever angle the user wants in the entire range of its motion. When it's time to fold the kickstand away, the same friction force resists folding... Read more...

A new Microsoft patent application has emerged that Redmond filed on May 1, 2017, but was only published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on November 1, 2018. The patent application shows an interesting feature that might turn up on a future version of the Surface Pro. The feature is a second supplemental display on the back of the Surface device that Microsoft has dubbed a "reflective display" and it would sit right above the hinge for the kickstand on the back. The abstract on the patent explains the screen would be a reflective multi-layer structure that forms an external surface of the electronic device and has a light-emitting display. The display portion is separated by a dielectric... Read more...
Industry standards change over time, and eventually new technologies almost always take the place of old ones. If you're old enough to remember using 3.5-inch or even 5.25-inch floppy disks, you know what we're talking about. As it pertains to right now, there is a shift from USB-A to USB-C connectivity taking place, albeit a slow one. Not everyone is eager to move on from USB-A, though, including Microsoft. Just last week, Microsoft unveiled a new round of Surface products, including the Surface Pro 6 and Surface Laptop 2, both of which wield upgraded 8th generation Intel Core processors on the inside. That is all well and good, but it's what's on the outside—or more accurately, what's... Read more...
Microsoft held an event today to announce a refresh to its Surface family of hardware devices. While the company didn't announce anything close to a Courier-like dual-screen mobile device, it did announce updates to its Surface Laptop and Surface Pro. Starting off with the Surface Laptop 2, Microsoft has upgraded the internals with Intel's 8th generation Core processors. In addition, you're no longer relegated to 4GB of RAM on base system; that has now been doubled to 8GB, with top SKUs getting 16GB. The Surface Laptop 2 is now up to 85 percent faster than the first-generation device.  The updated Surface Laptop 2 may have gained some firepower under the hood, but we can't say the same...
