What's the first song you listened to in 2012? Was on a Sirius XM radio? If not, there's a company that'd prefer to change that. Sirius XM Radio has just introduced the SiriusXM Lynx Portable Radio, the first SiriusXM 2.0 radio that offers new features and receives an expanded channel lineup via satellite and Internet. Lynx is the most advanced radio ever from SiriusXM, able to receive the new expanded SiriusXM 2.0 channel lineup of commercial-free music, sports, and comedy that includes SiriusXM Latino, a new suite of Spanish-language programming. While Siri has been on the tip of the tech world's tongue lately, it's Sirius XM making moves today. The company has released their first piece of hardware in quite some while, with the new Edge radio becoming the first to receive an expanded lineup of commercial-free music channels, sports, and comedy, as well as SiriusXM Latino, a new suite of Spanish-language channels.   The launch of SiriusXM Edge is part of the first phase of SiriusXM 2.0, a major upgrade and evolution of SiriusXM's satellite and Internet delivered service that will ultimately span hardware, software, audio, and data services. By employing highly efficient modulation and compression techniques introduced as part of... Read more...
It's still a little funny to think that Sirius and XM Radio are now one, and honestly, it's funny to think the company is still hanging around. After being recently bailed out by Liberty Media and getting an iPhone app into the approval queue, the company is taking things one step further by introducing its SkyDock mounting system. Essentially, the $120 XM SkyDock converts one's iPhone or iPod touch into an actual satellite radio receiver, and it gets power from your automobile's cigarette adapter. The device sounds a little pricey, but the features are certainly nice. For example, users can easily flag songs that play in order to purchase them later on iTunes. Needless to say, the move is being... Read more...

It's kind of funny, really. Not even a month ago, we didn't know if Sirius would actually be a company come mid-March. Now, we're looking at an outfit with real potential for growth and success. Interesting how a perfect suitor and a good move to partner with a hot-as-fire device can change things, huh? We've heard that Liberty Media (DirecTV's parent company) is already looking at the viability of Sirius XM-DirecTV bundles, which would presumably give DirecTVSirius XM subscription for a nominal fee. And considering just how many DirecTV subscribers are already out there and pleased as punch with their service, you can see that Sirius has a huge opportunity to expand its reach. As if that wasn't... Read more...
Talk about cutting it close. Just as many pundits were expecting the recently united Sirius XM to file for bankruptcy today as it stared down a huge loan payment, John Malone's Liberty Media has swooped in to save the day. The company, which just so happens to be the parent of DirecTV, has signed a last minute agreement that will prevent the satellite radio company from having to file for Chapter 11.As part of the deal, Liberty's chairman (John Malone; pictured) and chief executive (Greg Maffei) are expected to join Sirius's board of directors, and after a pledge of $530 million, we can't say we blame them for wanting a say in things. The investment won't all arrive at once, with "just" $280... Read more...
If you’re hooked on the convenience of satellite radio, be warned: your bill may see an increase in the coming months. Customer support representatives are now confirming a rate increase for Sirius XM services. There will be a $2 increase for additional subscriptions and a fee of $2.99 for the online Internet radio service (which is currently free with a subscription). On the upside, all Internet subscriptions will now feature the 128k premium feed. At this point, no channel lineup changes or new content offerings to accompany the price hike have been confirmed. Users with a single radio who do not take advantage of the online feed won’t be affected, as subscriptions for the Base, Best of, and... Read more...
