Charlie from the Inq is reporting that engineers at AMD are 'dancing in the aisles' because a new stepping of the company's Barcelona core turned out much better than expected.  The memory controller supposedly turned out very well and initial CPU clock speeds will be higher than originally planned. "AMD is doing something that we haven't seen a chip company do in a long time, sandbagging its official roadmaps. A while ago we told you about the intended launch frequencies, basically 1.9-2.5GHz, but that was before B0 parts came back." AMD Reports First Quarter Results SUNNYVALE, Calif. — April 19, 2007 — AMD (NYSE: AMD) today reported financial results for the quarter ended March 31, 2007.  AMD reported first quarter 2007 revenue of $1.233 billion, an operating loss of $504 million, and a net loss of $611 million, or $1.11 per share.  These results include ATI acquisition-related and integration charges of $113 million, or $0.21 per share, and employee stock-based compensation expense of $28 million, or $0.05 per share.  In the fourth quarter of 2006, AMD reported revenue of $1.773 billion and an operating loss of $529 million.  In the first quarter of 2006, AMD reported revenue... According to a story on Digitimes today, Asustek has plans to spin-off their notebook unit under its wholly-owned subsidiary Asusalpha Computer while keeping the motherboard and game console businesses under the Asustek umbrella. "Though Dell has placed orders for around one million notebooks with Asustek, the company is demanding that Asustek complete the spinoff of its own-brand notebook unit by the first quarter of 2008 or else future orders from the company may be in question, according to sources at notebook makers. Harcoreware.net has an interesting article on-line today that details the power consumption characteristics of today's top three new consoles while playing back video and playing games. And for the sake of comparison they also built a mid-range gaming PC to see how it stacked up. DigiTimes has the scoop on an new low-power AMD processor targeted at the Ultra Mobile PC market. The LX900 will reportedly be x86 compatible and run at 667MHz.  Power consumption numbers were not readily available, but considering the LX800 which runs at 800MHz consumes about 3.9W, it shouldn't be too high.  In the UMPC market, however, every fraction of a watt counts...      Showcased by none other than our own Dave and Marco, we see the upcoming refresh of the ASUS Lamborghini VX1 notebook which we previously reviewed with positive results. This new system addresses all of the minor gripes we had with the previous model, setting the stage for what should truly be a stunning piece of hardware. Although there are some significant changes, one can clearly see that the loud yellow color which is synonymous with Lamborghini will be retained for the new model.     Opening the lid of the latest version of the Lamborghini VX1, we see that the aesthetics of the system have undergone a major facelift. In a somewhat controversial move, Microsoft will be including a new feature in its messaging services which will allow users to contact police with just a few clicks of the mouse. If you're a resident of the United Kingdom, the new "Report Abuse" icon will appear on your Windows Live Messenger or MSN Messenger, which when clicked will take you directly to a site that will help you get in contact with Police. The new feature has been created with the help of the Child Exploitation and Online Protection(CEOP) Centre, in an effort to help curb inappropriate online sexual conduct. AMD REPORTS SECOND QUARTER RESULTS - 53 Percent Year-over-Year Sales Growth Driven by Record Adoption of AMD Opteron Processors - SUNNYVALE, Calif. - July 20, 2006 - AMD (NYSE: AMD) today reported sales of $1.22 billion, operating income of $102 million, and net income of $89 million, or $0.18 per share, for the quarter ended July 2, 2006.  These results include $18 million of employee stock-based compensation expense and a net gain of $10 million associated with Spansion LLC.'s repurchase of its 12.75 percent senior subordinated notes.
