Gigabyte has introduced a new entry in the growing external GPU enclosure sector. The company's new Radeon RX 580 Gaming Box of course includes its namesake graphics card inside the enclosure and connects to your PC with via a Thunderbolt 3 connection. The AMD Radeon RX 580 lurking inside the box is clocked at 1257MHz (default), 1,340MHz in Gaming Mode, and maxes out at 1,355MHz in OC Mode. The 8GB of GDDR5 memory is locked in at a frequency of 8GHz. Fueling the GPU is a 450W 80 Plus Gold certified power supply unit, and it has its own custom heatsink attached along with a massive fan to keep... Read more...
When we talk about gaming notebooks these days, the majority of the time they are powered by Intel Core processors. However, ASUS is throwing a little bit of variety in the mix with the release of its Republic of Gamers (ROG) Strix GL702ZC laptop. The ROG Strix GL702ZC has the distinction of being the world's first gaming laptop that is powered by an 8-core AMD Ryzen processor. In this case, the processor in question is a Ryzen 7 1700 with eight cores capable of executing 16 threads. The 65W TDP processor has a base clock of 3GHz and a max turbo speed of 3.7GHz. If that wasn't enough, the ROG Strix... Read more...
As we reported yesterday, hardware OEMs are paying closer attention to the needs of consumers who partake in cryptocurrency mining. As of late, Ethereum, a new form of currency similar to Bitcoin, has been a hot topic. For example, ASRock is marketing its H110 Pro BTC+ motherboard, which features an huge array13 PCIe slots to be the foundation of a what could be a seriously powerful GPU-powered mining rig. And with 13 PCIe slots at your disposal, you’ll want to find some [relatively] affordable GPUs with enough processing grunt to make mining financially worth your while. Mitch Steves,... Read more...
The AMD Radeon RX 580 has been in the wild for over a month at this point. AMD pitched the Radeon RX 580 as an ideal choice for gamers looking to upgrade from graphics hardware acquired a couple years back. Specifically, in the lead up to the launch, AMD compared the performance of the RX 580 to cards like the Radeon R9 380. So, with that in mind, we're in the lab today to test that claim using the recently launched Prey reboot from Bethesda Softworks and developer Arkane Studios, as our primary benchmark and game engine to explore. The game also just so happens to look fabulous.  This is... Read more...
In preparation for the impending launch of AMD's next-generation Vega GPU architecture, which will eventually reside at the top of the company's graphics product stack, AMD is refreshing its mainstream graphics card line-up with some more-powerful Polaris-based offerings. In time, the new Radeon RX 580, RX 570, RX 560, and RX 550 cards launching today will supplant all of the current-generation Radeon RX 400-series cards, though these new cards are not radically different from their predecessors. Their clocks, shader counts, and memory configurations have been tweaked, but they’re still based on... Read more...
At some point in the not-too-distant future, AMD will launch its Radeon RX 500 series graphics cards based on its current generation Polaris GPU architecture (Vega shouldn't be too far behind). In preparation of the impending launch, at least one European online retailer has updated its web store with several listings of both cards, including an ASUS ROG Strix RX 580 Gaming model. The ASUS ROG Strix RX 580 Gaming (ROG-STRIX-RX580-O8G-GAMING) card is listed on Lambda Tek as having 8GB of what we presume to be GDDR5 memory. And if the listing is accurate, it will have a DVI port, two HDMI ports,... Read more...
This is a big year for AMD. The company is releasing a brand new CPU architecture (Ryzen) on March 2 and is currently enjoying tremendous pre-release hype, then later this year it will introduce a new GPU architecture called Vega. AMD fans and the tech community at large are sitting on pins and needles to see how things shake out. However, brand-spanking-new architectures aren't the only things AMD has up its sleeve. Newly leaked benchmarks showing a Radeon RX 580 and Radeon RX 560 suggest a Polaris refresh is in the cards as well.Interestingly the benchmarks appear to originate from an AMD employee....
