Google is not interested in suffering a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack--although it’s hard to imagine such an attack being successful considering Google’s vast capabilities--and the company is bringing the same DDoS-thwarting technology it uses to protect itself to the masses with Project Shield. “Project Shield is an initiative to use Google's infrastructure to protect free expression online,” reads a Google blog post. “The service currently combines Google's DDoS mitigation technologies and Page Speed Service (PSS), which allow websites to serve their content through Google to be better protected from DDoS attacks.” DDoS attacks take down websites...

They say it’s not usually a good idea to see how and where the sausage is made, but Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford gave a tour of the Gearbox Studios and his own home for an NVIDIA Project SHIELD showcase video to show how all the places and people involved in creating (and playing) the company’s games. In the Gearbox offices tour, we see some the development studio, the motion capture studio, and the animation put where animators work up the eye candy, and there’s also a focus tester room where regular joes and janes off the street get to test unreleased titles for free (and receive nifty swag in return). The Razer Edge and NVIDIA’s Project SHIELD aren’t the only handheld gaming tablets in the game; the Wikipad is making a push, and the $249 tablet will officially launch on June 11th. The Wikipad adopts the same design concept as the Razer Edge, which is a tablet that snaps into a handheld controller that converts the whole thing into a portable console. The Wikipad is a 7-inch device (smaller than the 10-inch Razer Edge) and runs a quad core NVIDIA Tegra 3 SoC with 16GB of onboard storage (with a 32GB micro SD slot) and micro USB, HDMI out, a 2MP front camera, GPS, an accelerometer, and a gyroscope.
