We've been having a bit of fun ourselves with a fancy 6-screen ATI Eyefinity setup in the HH labs, but someone obviously things that an even half-dozen may be "overkill" for some. So obviously, 5 is perfectly acceptable. Powercolor, which knows a thing or two about graphics cards, has just introduced their HD5770 Eyefinity 5, which features " multi-display eyefinity technology, enables up to 5 monitors to be operated from one card through its five mini displayport onboard design." You heard right, this card has five mini-DisplayPorts on it, so if you need some other selection, you'll need an awful lot of adapters. The card itself is based around the ATI HD5770, with an 850MHz core clock speed,... Read more...

There is no way to categorize AMD's recent launch of the RV770 graphics processor powering the Radeon HD 4800 series of cards as anything other than a resounding success. Cards based on the GPU hit the scene offering very strong performance in their respective price brackets, and forced rival NVIDIA to react with a quick round of price cuts that will surely eat into NVIDIA's margins on the gigantic 65nm GT200 chip. Although actual sales figures aren't available just yet, we suspect AMD is going to show strong sales of every member of the Radeon HD 4800 series. One common concern among analysts and users of AMD's latest flagship GPU has been heat, however. Virtually every evaluation of a reference... Read more...

There is an interesting article posted tonight at NeoSeeker. They bill the article as a review of Powercolor's X1800GTO card, but they test a number of different CrossFire configurations in an attempt to see if there is a difference in performance when using a dongle or not, and when switching from an x8 / x8 to an x16 / x16 PCI Express Lane configuration. "Our Crossfire testing proves that two X1800 GTO's, even on an older dual 8x board will still provide good performance. Despite the gains that an X1800 Crossfire Master card setup present, that's hardly a viable solution and should not be considered in place of another X1800 GTO.... Read more...
There is an interesting article posted at NeoSeeker tonight. They bill the article as a review of Powercolor's X1800GTO card, but the crew also tests performance in a number of different CrossFire configurations. According to their results, there doesn't seem to be a compelling reason to purchase an X1800 Master card to use alongside an 1800GTO. "Our Crossfire testing proves that two X1800 GTO's, even on an older dual 8x board will still provide good performance. Despite the gains that an X1800 Crossfire Master card setup present, that's hardly a viable solution and should not be considered in place of another X1800 GTO. Hopefully ATI... Read more...

The old crowd of PCI TV Tuners may need to step aside soon, as their PCIe cousins head into the market. Sure, there are still plenty of people without motherboards equipped with PCI Express expansion slots, but the old PCI bus is eventually on it's way out. Today we're going to take a look at PowerColor's PCI Express based Theatre 550 Pro TV Tuner. Other than the way the card interfaces with a system, there's little difference between the newer PCIe based tuners over PCI, so we'll be focusing on the PowerColor card's performance, ease of installation, setup, and bundled software. Speaking of software, some of you may recall our relative displeasure with CyberLink's PowerCinema 3 software in our... Read more...
PowerColor X800 GT Xtreme Edition Review @ The Tech Zone: "Power for the X800 GT Xtreme is provided by ATI's R480 chipset running at 500MHz. This is 25MHz faster than the standard X800 GT. The Xtreme achieves this higher core speed with a better cooling solution. The normal X800 GT use 256 Meg of 2ns GDDR3 memory running at 980MHz. The Xtreme version use 1.6ns memory running at 1050MHz. All together, it adds up to a faster video card for just a few dollars more." HTPC Primer, Part II @ Bigbruin.com: "In the first of a two-part series of Tech Tips on getting started with a Home Theater PC, or HTPC, we looked at the two most basic features to be considered: audio and video. Hey everyone. Well I finally got a chance to give the F.E.A.R. demo a run... it's all right. The game it's self, while not being anything we haven't seen before(except for the creepy little girl), seems to promise some intense action and killer graphics. However the demo seemed to need a little more polish, and unfortunately I am one of the ones who are experiencing horrible stuttering. If Monolith can iron out that issue and the other bugs that are found in the demo, we'll be in for a real treat later on this year. Oh, and speaking of the demo, Mr. Ghazi from TweakGuides has put out a quick guide for your tweaking pleasure. Now, on with the news. HP/Compaq TC4200 Tablet PC "As far as any... Read more...
