Sony's PlayStation Classic retro game console was never really the hit that people were expecting. The console is now down to an all-time low price of $24.99 on Amazon, which is a discount of $35 off Amazon's regular retail price of $59.99. The thing is that even the $59.99 price is a substantial discount off the price it launched at not even a year ago. When the PlayStation Classic first hit preorder in September of 2018, Sony was asking $99.99. By December the console had seen price cuts bringing its cost down to $75. Last month the price of the console was chopped to just $30. The $24.99 price tag that you can get the PlayStation Classic at right now is the lowest price we have seen so far.... Read more...
Sony had hoped to capture the imaginations of gamers across the globe with its PlayStation Classic in the same way that Nintendo did with the NES Classic and SNES Classic. However, many gamers balked at the game lineup, its price tag, and emulation performance (among other things). Needless to say, within a month of launch the price of the PlayStation Classic dropped to $70, and by the end of 2018, it could be had for less than $50. Now, Sony appears to be trying to clear these consoles out with a massive fire sale at some of the nation's leading e-tailers. The going price is now a very appealing $29.99. Even with its flaws, $30 is a more than a fair price to pay for the gaming console,... Read more...
When the Sony PlayStation Classic was announced in October, the MSRP for the retro console was $99.99. When it launched, however, fans weren't that happy with the roster of games Sony packed inside, and sales didn't meet expectations. On Christmas Eve, the console saw significant discounts with many retailers selling it for under $70. Now the PlayStation Classic is even cheaper only a few days later, with a new sales price of $59.99. That marks a discount of $40 on the console after only about three weeks on the market. This discounted price isn't a sale at a few locations either; it can be purchased for $59.99 at Amazon, GameStop, BestBuy, Walmart, Target, and other retailers. But we can do... Read more...
How low can it go? Just over a week ago, Sony's newly released PlayStation Classic retro gaming console received a big price cut. A number of retailers priced the tiny console at $75, which is $25 off the $100 MSRP at launch in early December. Now, the PlayStation Classic’s price is falling even further. Amazon is selling the console for $69.95, or $30 off its MSRP. Nintendo hasn't resorted to such fire sales to clear out inventory of its NES Classic Edition and SNES Classic Edition, and as far as we can remember, those consoles have stuck to MSRP for their entire lifecycles. So, what's causing gamers to thumb their nose at the PlayStation Classic, prompting these early price reductions?... Read more...

The Sony PlayStation Classic has been selling well since it debuted thus month, and we have already seen the device gutted to find it runs a quad-core ARM processor and has 16GB of storage inside. More recently we learned that the PS Classic has a secret emulation menu, but you need the right USB keyboard to access it. Now word has surfaced that the device has some serious flaws in its security that made the console easy for hackers to crack to run additional games off a USB drive. The blunder Sony made with securing the console was found by console hackers when dumping the PS Classic system code onto an external machine. What they found was that Sony hid the key needed to decrypt the... Read more...
The PlayStation Classic is the latest retro console to hit the market and is expected to sell very well this holiday season. We thought we knew everything about the little retro console with Sony detailing the full game list for the device in late October. Late last month the console was torn down and inside is 16GB of storage and a quad-core ARM processor. Players have continued to fiddle with the PlayStation Classic and have discovered a hidden menu in the console's software. The menu outlines several hidden emulation options that you can only see if you connect the right USB keyboard to the console. Not just any old USB keyboard will work according to reports, you need to connect a high-end... Read more...
Sony is hoping to recapture the magic of the original PlayStation game console by bringing it back in miniaturized form, just as Nintendo did with its NES Classic and SNES Classic game systems. Will Sony enjoy the same success that Nintendo did? That question will be answered another day. For now, however, Sony has taken to answering a bunch of frequently asked questions about its upcoming retro console. Nintendo was the first to see ginormous success with rebooting an earlier era game system, and for a long time, it was nearly impossible to score an NES Classic or SNES Classic at an actual retail store, as opposed to hopping on eBay or Craigslist and paying an inflated price for one. It's hard... Read more...
Sony's upcoming PlayStation Classic apparently takes advantage of a widely available open-source emulator to drive games on the mini retro gaming console. According to Frank Cifaldi, founder of The Video Game History Foundation, the PlayStation Classic utilizes PCSX ReARMed. This emulator is a specialized, open-source emulator specifically targeted at ARM processor-based systems. As it is open-source and free for everyone, it has been used at the heart of several emulators over the years, including my personal favorite Android emulator ClassicBoy. Under the terms of the open-source license, anyone that uses the software is required to disclose this information, which is how it came... Read more...

If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, Sony is flattering the heck out of Nintendo. Back in 2016, Nintendo first rolled out its NES Classic Edition console that was plug and play with more than two dozen classic games packed inside. Sony is now getting in on the classic console action with the PlayStation Classic landing December 3. That will put this retro console on the market just in time for holiday shopping and with a $99.99 price, it will certainly be appealing to gamers. Sony notes that it has been nearly 25 years since that original PlayStation landed, with it eventually becoming the first game console in history to ship 100 million units globally. Any gamer around... Read more...
