Elon Musk surprised the audience of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert last night when he suggested that one way to prepare Mars for habitation could be to drop nukes on it. Musk, who is the founder of Tesla, SpaceX and other companies pushing the technology envelope, was discussing the possibility of warming Mars to convert it from the cold, barren planet that it is to something more hospitable. When it comes to warming Mars, “There’s a fast way and a slow way,” Musk said shortly after he referred to Mars as a “fixer-upper of a planet.” Not surprisingly, Colbert asked for the fast way. “The fast way is drop thermonuclear weapons over the poles.” They never got around to the alternative, though...

In the technology arena there are leaders and visionaries. Many people have described men like Steve Jobs and Bill Gates as visionaries and market-changing leaders. Then there's another class of people in technology - the inventors. These folks are visionaries, leaders and in most cases, genetically wired geniuses. Tesla, Einstein, Edison, (Wozniak, Page and Brin?) these are the names of men that brought about technologies so disruptive and influential that they changed the landscape forever. It may be a little early to group this man into the same class of inventors as Einstein and Edison, but we may some day be speaking the name "Musk" in the same breath as we...

Check out two flavors of Mushkin RAM, then wrap it up with a new monitor from Creative that is worthy of your attention. Mushkin PC2-4200 DDR2 Low Latency Kit @ Viper Lair: "We were quite pleased with Mushkin's PC2-4200 3-2-2-8 as it performed reliably and was quick as well. We did hit some hurdles in overclocking past DDR2-667, but in that case you would be better served by their PC2-5300 kit.
