Microsoft recently announced that it was bringing the entire Halo catalog to PC, through both the Microsoft Store and Steam. For the first time, a fan of the franchise (new or old) will be able to play every major title without touching an Xbox console, if that is their desire. In anticipation of the wholesale port, Microsoft is opening up its Halo Insider program to PC players. The Halo Insider program was previously only available to Xbox One gamers, and it played an important role in fixing bugs in the Master Chief Collection for that console. By opening up the program to PC players, Microsoft hopes it will have the same effect on the Windows experience. "Join us on the journey to bring Halo:... Read more...

It’s a good thing that Lizard Squad-led attack on Microsoft’s Xbox Live online gaming service was short-lived, because one of the most anticipated beta releases in months is now open. Microsoft (via Xbox Wire) announced that the multiplayer beta for Halo 5: Guardians is now available.  Microsoft is hoping to give gamers just a little taste of what to expect when the game officially hits store shelves in Fall 2015. Microsoft has encountered more than a few issues with Halo: The Master Chief Collection. The compilation title launched in November and was fraught with issues, the chief of which was broken multiplayer. Players were subject to long wait times to enter matches, broken matchmaking, and various other issues that made the multiplayer — the hallmark of the Halo games — unplayable. Microsoft and 343 Industries, the new stewards of the Halo franchise, have heard the cries of gamers and are offering to make amends. In addition to ongoing updates to address the multiplayer issues, 343 Industries chief Bonnie Ross announced on Xbox Wire that anyone that played Halo: The Master Chief Collection between... Halo: The Master Chief Collection has been out for only a couple of days but players are still experiencing matchmaking issues. According to a post from the developer, it has released a server-side update that has improved the matchmaking times for some users while others are still experiencing longer wait times. Additional updates were released last night that increased the amount of players able to enter matches. However, 343 Industries also pointed at Xbox Live Services as another factor that is causing the issues and preventing the developer from releasing its latest... Read more...
It's a bit of a bummer that Halo 5: Guardians isn't set to release until sometime next year, but on the bright side, some semi-new content is coming soon. In Microsoft's continuing effort to milk the popular franchise -- and rightfully so, we might add -- the Redmond outfit announced that it will be shipping Halo: The Master Chief Collection in time to celebrate Halo 2's 10-year anniversary on November 11, 2014. The package will include Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3, and Halo 4 all crammed onto a single disc with a $59.99 MSRP. However, this isn't just a mere repackaging of previously released titles. Microsoft is planning to include several new bonus content and enhancements. For example,... Read more...
