Linuz Henze, a well-known security researcher, has found a particularly troublesome bug in Apple's macOS. The exploit involves the operating system's Keychain, which stores passwords, private keys, and other user credentials.  Henze has demonstrated a working app that could be maliciously used to pilfer your Mac's Keychain, robbing you of stored passwords that are used to access everything from your Hulu account to your bank's website to your health insurance information. What's even more devastating is the fact that the exploit doesn't even require administrator privileges -- or any special privileges for that matter -- to take advantage of the Keychain. According to Henze, the exploit... Read more...
AMD is on a roll, and we get the sense the company is just getting started. Having reasserted itself into the enthusiast discussion with its latest CPU and GPU architectures, the focus has quickly shifted to its 7-nanometer production designs. That is what AMD's upcoming Navi GPU architecture will be based on, and perhaps hinting that a launch is right around the corner, references to several Navi products have been found inside the source code for a beta update to macOS Mojave. Based on AMD's own roadmaps and past comments, we know that Navi is due to come out sometime this year. What we don't know, however, is when exactly it will arrive. We also don't know what kind of performance targets... Read more...
In lieu of pitchforks and torches, thousands of ticked off Mac owners are grabbing hold of a petition demanding that "Apple permit NVIDIA to make web drivers that work with all Mac OS versions going forward." The petition, which nearly 3,000 people have signed, is in response to users reporting issues with NVIDIA graphics solutions on Mac systems after upgrading to macOS 10.14 Mojave. "Being able to utilize the hardware acceleration provided by NVIDIA is vital to many of us, as are the bug fixes and features introduced with the application and OS updates. These drivers have always been available, but Apple now blocks NVIDIA from supporting OS 10.14 Mojave. We demand that Apple publicly commit... Read more...
Apple is currently beta testing the next major version of its desktop operating system, macOS Mojave, which is due to arrive on Mac systems this fall. In the meantime, users are discovering some interesting features. One of them is an expansive migration tool that will make switching from a Windows PC to macOS Mojave easier than in previous versions. It is not a brand new tool, but a more capable version of Apple's existing Windows Migration Assistant. Twitter user @YRH04E posted a screenshot of the expanded tool showing that it is capable of porting over more data than ever before, including user accounts, documents, email, contacts, and calendar data from third-party programs such as Microsoft... After announcing iOS 12 earlier this afternoon, Apple moved on to its macOS desktop operating system. Like with iOS 12, there aren't any major jaw dropping additions to the mix with macOS Mojave (10.14).  First and foremost is the introduction of a new Dark Mode, which brings a dark theme throughout the operating system. It is currently possible to get a dark Menu bar and Dock in macOS High Sierra, but macOS Mojave extends the darker colors to all system apps and the overall UI. It's a nice touch, and one that will likely be appreciated by many. In order to cutdown on desktop clutter (you know; photos, documents, spreadsheets, etc. strewn all over), Apple has introduced Desktop... Read more...
