The first time we heard anything about John Romero's fifth, and unofficial, episode for 1993's Doom was last December. The mod promised nine new single-player levels and nine deathmatch levels of fun for free. However, there were also a pair of paid editions that brought extra goodies with the game. In February, Romero announced that the game was being delayed and would ship in April; that didn't happen either. Now, the game has finally landed; Sigil is finally available to download at no cost via Romero's website. If you are a fan of the original 1993 game Doom, you are in for a treat with Romero Games offering up a new expansion for the original game to celebrate its 25th anniversary. The game is called SIGIL, and John Romero says that the game is a free megawad that contains nine single-player levels and nine deathmatch levels with music by metal guitarist Buckethead. The megawad will launch in mid-February and requires that you have the original 1993 registered version of Doom to play, not the newer 2016 version of Doom for Switch and other platforms. Back in the fall of 2014, we reported that the legendary John Romero was working on a new first-person shooter. While FPS titles are a dime a dozen, it's hard to ignore someone like Romero, especially when the promise is that the main focus of the game will be its design, not graphics or other superfluous features. Today, we learn that that FPS is called BLACKROOM, and it's now ready for backing on Kickstarter.
