It’s getting close to that time again — the time every year when Apple releases a new generation of iPhones. Last year, we were introduced to the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus — both of which were supercharged versions of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s Plus that came before them. This time around, Apple will present the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. For those that are expecting a dramatic departure in design with Apple’s newest smartphones (which is usually the case for non “S” models), you’re going to be disappointed. The overall look is just a further refinement of the current iPhone family. To see how that will play out when the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are introduced in early September, there’s... Famed tech informant Evan Blass, known as @evleaks on Twitter, claims Apple is gearing up to release its iPhone 7 model to retail on the week of September 12, and most likely on that Friday, September 16. And to be clear, he's referring to when you can actually go out and purchase an iPhone 7 model, not the launch event, which will take place sometime beforehand. There's no reason not to believe Blass on this one. Even ignoring his more than favorable history with leaking inside information that later turns out to be accurate, including Apple leaks, the time frame generally fits with Apple's past launches. A September 16 release is slightly earlier than the September 25 retail launch of the iPhone... Read more...
One thing we've come to expect from Apple is that every two years there's a major redesign to its iPhone device, with incremental upgrades filling the gap in between those releases. It's been a recipe for success in the mobile phone space, but apparently Apple has decided to dance out of rhythm by keeping the overall design of its next iPhone release the same as it is now.Citing people supposedly familiar with Apple's plans, The Wall Street Journal says the next generation iPhone models will stick with 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch displays as currently found on the iPhone 6/6s and iPhone 6/6s Plus, respectively. It seems Apple has found a couple of form factors that have proven popular and isn't anxious... Read more...
After years of speculation, it appears that Intel has finally won a spot inside Apple’s iPhone 7 according to a new report from Bloomberg. Qualcomm has been the primary supplier of wireless modems inside iPhones for years, but its role will be diminished thanks to Apple’s new agreement with Intel. It’s not all sours news for Qualcomm, however, as it’s been reported that the company will still supply chips for CDMA versions of the iPhone, like those that operate on Verizon Wireless/Sprint in the United States and for the Chinese market. Intel chips will be used in GSM versions of the iPhone 7 (i.e. AT&T and T-Mobile in the United States) for majority of the remaining global markets. Bloomberg... Read more...
We haven’t even reached the summer yet, but iPhone 7 rumors are already starting to heat up. One of the more interesting rumors hitting the internet over the past few weeks suggested that the iPhone 7 would feature a Smart Connector, similar to the one found on the 9.7-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pros. If you recall, the Smart Connector provides a data and power connection to accessories for the iPad Pro. For example, the iPad Pro uses its Smart Connector to communicate with the Apple-branded Smart Keyboard and other third-party accessories. Having such functionality on an iPhone could open up a new avenue for innovative new accessories, including battery cases that don’t have to connect via the... Read more...
Much of the attention in the mobile space at the moment is on Samsung's shiny new Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge handsets, but lest anyone forget about the iPhone, an alleged leaked photo of the iPhone 7's chassis is making the rounds. If the image turns out to be accurate, then there are some subtle changes in store for Apple's next flagship smartphone. That's always the big question, is the leaked photo accurate? In this case, it's worth noting that the image was obtained by French-language website Nowhereelse.fr, home to famed leaker OnLeaks (Steve Hemmerstoffer), who authored the blog post showing the photo and also posted it to Twitter. It certainly seems that he's pretty confident in the image's... Read more...
Rumor has it Apple is abandoning the standard 3.5mm headphone jack on its next iPhone models, presumably the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. In its place Apple reportedly plans to bundle a set of earphones that will plug into the iPhone 7's Lightening port called EarPods. If that doesn't tickle your fancy, Apple might also offer a set of Bluetooth headphones.Keeping in mind that nothing is yet official, there's suspicion that Apple may have used a shell company called Entertainment in Flight LLC to apply for the "AirPods" trademark several months ago. That would be a fitting name for a pair of wireless earbuds, one that will likely be sold separately rather than bundled with the iPhone 7.Tired of... Read more...
