As we get closer to the launch of the OnePlus 5, OnePlus is being a bit more generous with details surrounding its upcoming flagship Android smartphone. Earlier this week, the company revealed that the smartphone will be unveiled on June 20th, and today it revealed our first real [officially sanctioned] picture of the device. Here it is; or at least here is the back of the OnePlus 5, which clearly gives us a look at the dual camera setup and LED flash. The arrangement of the cameras, flash, microphone and the visible antenna lines might bring up immediate comparisons to the iPhone 7 Plus.... Read more...
Samsung may have been the poster child for electronics battery fires in 2016 with its Galaxy Note 7, but Apple is taking quick action to ensure that one incident involving an iPhone 7 Plus is just a fluke. An Arizona teen recently posted a video to Twitter which showed her iPhone 7 Plus in a bathroom with white smoke billowing from its casing. In the video, which has since gone viral and contains NSFW language, Brianna Olivas is in disbelief at what is unfolding before her eyes. According to Olivas, the phone was charging next to her head while she was asleep, until her boyfriend walked over and... Read more...
It would appear that Apple is having a tougher time than expected selling iPhone 7 models. This is in part due to a backlog of iPhone 6s models, which has supposedly led Apple to cut production of its flagship handset. As the story goes, Apple gave its suppliers a heads up that it will be slashing orders of its iPhone handsets by around 10 percent starting in the first quarter of 2017.This is according to Nikkei Asian Review, an English-language business journal that says Apple first slashed output of its handsets in the January to March period due to a buildup of iPhone 6s inventory. That led... Read more...
Everyone knows about the dreaded blue screen of death (BSOD) that was popularized by earlier versions of Microsoft Windows, but what about a black screen of death? Some Apple iPhone 7 Plus owners are running into this issue when attempting to use the rear cameras on their flagship smartphones. Unlike the iPhone 7, the iPhone 7 Plus actually has two 12MP camera sensors on the rear, offering both wide-angle and telephoto shooting options. The camera pair allows for 2x optical zoom and 10x digital zoom, but it appears that a hardware defect is causing the cameras to fail unexpectedly. Owners who attempt... Read more...
It has been a month since Apple started selling its flagship iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus devices, though up until now, you couldn't buy a SIM-free version that's factory unlocked. Now you can. The caveat (which isn't much of one, really) is that you have to purchase the SIM-free model direct from Apple, either from one of its retail locations or from its web store. Pricing for an unlocked iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus runs the same as models that are tied to a specific wireless carrier. Here's how it breaks down: iPhone 7 32GB: $649 iPhone 7 128GB: $749 iPhone 7 256GB: $849 iPhone 7 Plus 32GB: $769... Read more...
Apple’s iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will begin shipping to customers this Friday, but the tech press began posting their thoughts on the smartphones early this morning. The general consensus is that it’s a notable upgrade for those who currently own an iPhone 6/iPhone 6 Plus or older, and that those with an iPhone 6s/iPhones 6s Plus might want to wait to see what Apple’s 2017 iPhone has to offer. With that being said, let’s take a look at some thoughts from the pundits on the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. Probably the most controversial aspect of the new iPhones comes from the removal of the 3.5mm... Read more...
The pieces are starting to come together following Apple’s announcement yesterday that it won’t be releasing opening weekend sales for its new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus flagships. “These initial sales will be governed by supply, not demand, and we have decided that it is no longer a representative metric for our investors and customers,” said Apple in a statement. “Therefore we won’t be releasing a first-weekend number any longer.” The iPhone has been on a downward trajectory with regards to sales in the past year, with fiscal Q3 2016 shipments falling to 40.4 million units compared to 47.7 million... Apple iPhone 7 mania is already upon us. Apple’s next generation iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus were announced on Wednesday, and preorders for the phones kicked off this morning. As we found out earlier this week, both models are powered by a brand new, quad-core Apple A10 Fusion processor. While we’ll likely find out more details on the processor when the first reviews land next week, we’re already beginning to get a little insight into the A10 variant powering the iPhone 7 Plus. According to Geekbench numbers, which showcase the iPhone 7 Plus running iOS 10.0.1 (Golden Master), the 5.5-inch smartphone... Read more...
When it comes to the opening weekend for a brand new iPhone release, Apple has a tradition of announcing record sales figures. The company usually proudly touts tremendous year-over-year growth, with Apple CEO Tim Cook proclaiming last year, “Sales for iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus have been phenomenal, blowing past any previous first weekend sales results in Apple’s history.” Indeed, Apple sold 10 million iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus smartphones during their debut in 2014, while the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus countered with 13 million units in 2015. Perhaps in a sign of the times, where Apple’s... Read more...
Not long after the iPhone 6s was announced last year (and perhaps even a bit before) the blogosphere was already looking ahead to the iPhone 7. And in the past few months, we’ve been treated to a wealth of information on Apple’s next generation of smartphones including leaked prototypes, specs, and the removal of one beloved feature. Today, Apple officially pulled the wraps off both the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus. And as the leaks have already shown us, things don’t change dramatically on the looks front. If you’ve seen the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus don’t... Read more...
Apple is set to unveil its next generation iPhone on September 7th. And despite the increment in model numbers from 6s to 7, this won’t be a radically different design according to the numerous leaks we’ve seen over the past few months. Instead, the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will again be a further refinement of the rounded shape that was introduced with the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in 2014. The major design differences come in the form of redesigned plastic antenna lines (to make them less unsightly) and the removal of the 3.5mm headphone jack. That latter point has sparked a lot of controversy... Read more...
As with nearly every iPhone released before it, we’ve already gotten a clear picture of the what to expect when the iPhone 7 debuts next month. Leaked schematics, mockups, and prototypes have tipped us off to its design, while it’s easy to surmise that an A10 processor and M10 co-processor will power the device. However, the most controversial design decision by far is the apparent lack of a 3.5mm headphone jack on the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. Apple is instead expected to favor the existing Lightning port to connect to wired headphones. That means that customers will 1) have to go out and buy... Read more...
It’s getting close to that time again — the time every year when Apple releases a new generation of iPhones. Last year, we were introduced to the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus — both of which were supercharged versions of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s Plus that came before them. This time around, Apple will present the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. For those that are expecting a dramatic departure in design with Apple’s newest smartphones (which is usually the case for non “S” models), you’re going to be disappointed. The overall look is just a further refinement of the current iPhone family. To see... Read more...
