Intel's familiar "Intel Inside" is not just a catchy slogan backed by a familiar audio riff that we hear on TV commercials; it's also a program that helps to fund marketing efforts of its vast army of hardware partners that each sell in excess of 10,000 systems per year. The program is open to hardware partners that sell PCs featuring Intel Core and Xeon processors (among other Intel processors) and adhere to strict guidelines set forth by the chip giant. Complying with Intel's wishes sets up manufacturers to receive cash that can be used for advertising or even instant cash rebates on processors to reduce upfront costs. "The way the money used to flow, Intel would offer pure rebates back to... Read more...
Intel's four beat, three second jingle has become synonymous with the company's brand, despite the fact that it contains no spoken words or associated text. To date, Santa Clara has reserved the sequence for its desktop, laptop, and server products, but it's planning a major smartphone marketing campaign as well. Intel is only just now dipping a toe in the US market -- the company has launched several Medfield-based phones this year, but they were destined for markets in China, India, Russia, and the UK. Last week's Razr i from Motorola is the first US phone to use an x86 processor, and it contains a faster Medfield, at 2GHz, than its cousins in other markets. Intel sees smartphone branding as... Dell is floundering around trying to regain the top spot in home computer sales. I don't think getting sued over secret kickbacks while being investigated by the Securities and Exchange Commission over funny stock options is going to help. This latest complaint adds Intel to the mix. It accuses Dell of taking up to $1 billion per year in payments from Intel in exchange for only using Intel CPUs in its laptops, desktops, and servers and says that Dell's "superior operating margins" were due in large part to "the hundreds of millions of dollars of secret and likely illegal rebate/kickback payments Dell was receiving from Intel at the end of each quarter in return for purchasing 100% or... It seems as though supposedly Intel is planning to drop the "Intel Inside" logo and slogan, come the new year, at least according to the Inq.  Fact, fiction?  Who knows for sure but Intel definitely seems poised and ready for a change in the consumer processor space. The change is part of some other branding ideas that the back room boys and girls in Intel's marketing department have been having. Yonah will be called 'Core Solo' for the single core processor, the dual core Pentium M will have the label 'Core Duo'. Future plans for any Dick Van Dyke processor called 'Core Blimey' can be safely discounted.I can hear it now, "The Dynamic Duo"...  God help... Read more...
