Over the past few months we've heard some pretty interesting rumors about Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S10 flagship. One of the rumored features that is most likely to come to fruition is the inclusion of an in-display fingerprint sensor, replacing the rear-mounted sensor on current Galaxy smartphones. One other feature reportedly on tap for at least some variants of the Galaxy S10 is a completely notch-free display. This rumor has been fueled by patents that Samsung filed for sensors embedded within the display -- including selfie cameras -- and the company's recent move to mock notched smartphones like the Google Pixel 3 XL. The hidden camera technology under... Read more...
We have probably said it a million times by now, but Samsung's Super AMOLED displays are some of the best looking panels on mobile, bar none. The same is true of the company's newest flagship phones, the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+, though unfortunately the experience is being marred for some due to an unknown issue that is causing the parts of the touchscreen to be unresponsive. "Does anyone else have issues with the Galaxy S9 touchscreen? I've got a few dead spots on the bottom half of my screen. Getting a replacement phone shipped but do wonder if it is bad luck or a more common issue with the phone," a user asked on Samsung's community forums. Other have chimed in with complaints of the same... Read more...
It's to be expected; a next generation smartphone arrives and it blows its predecessor out of the water when it comes to features and specifications. Such was the case when the Samsung Galaxy S8 was released last year, and today, we're seeing the same with the Galaxy S9. DisplayMate had a chance to test out the Galaxy S9's Super AMOLED display, and it was deemed good enough to earn an "Excellent A+" grade. At first glance, one might assume that Samsung would simply hold the line and continue to use the same stellar Galaxy S8/S8+ Infinity Display panels on its latest flagships. However, Dr. Raymond Soneira, President of DisplayMate, says that Samsung has made improvements to both absolute picture... Read more...
The public reveal of Samsung’s Galaxy S8 is a little over three weeks away, which means that the leaks are continuing to drip at a steady rate. The latest leak gives us a good look at the smartphone from nearly every angle while it is nestled within a clear, plastic case. We can clearly see the Galaxy S8’s massive Infinity Display Super AMOLED and the lack of a home button (which might take some getting used to on the part of long-time Galaxy owners). A close-up look at the area directly above the display also shows us what looks to be six sensors — we know that at least one of them is the 8MP front-facing camera while yet another is the iris scanner, which can be used to unlock the device....   Here it is, folks! Notorious gadget leaker Evan Blass has done it again, giving us our first real glimpse at Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S8 flagship. The image, which includes both the front and rear of the device, confirms some of the rumors that we’ve heard about the highly anticipated Android device. The front of the Galaxy S8 appears to be an interrupted piece of glass (aka, Infinity Display), with no sign of a home button. Samsung is said to use a virtual home button in its place to give a more uniform look to the smartphone. The touch sensitive navigation buttons have also been given the boot. So, if the home button is no longer on the front of the device, what happened to the fingerprint... Read more...
