For all the talk about curved displays and other innovations that we’re supposedly going to start seeing in wearable computing any minute now (what wonders will CES hold on that front this year?), OEMs are limited by what display manufacturers can create. To that end, Corning announced a new manufacturing process for its Gorilla Glass that should open up myriad design possibilities for wearables as well as curved displays on smartphones, tablets, and other devices. “Corning is targeting commercialization of finished 3D-shaped Gorilla Glass parts in 2014 and is working with G-Tech Optoelectronics Corp. Chinese mobile device maker Huawei has a ways to go in terms of its global image despite recent growth, but the company now lays claim to the “fastest smartphone in the world” with the introduction of the Huawei Ascend P2. Indeed, Huawei isn’t shy in proclaiming its feelings about the Ascend P2, which CEO Richard Yu called a “perfect smartphone” in a press release. The phone’s juicy specs include a 1.5GHz quad-core processor, 4G LTE, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of (non-expandable) storage, a 1.3MP front-facing camera, and a 13MP camera that shoots 1080p video, all of which is housed in an 8.4mm body.
