It seems as though device manufacturers are increasingly hoping that consumers will supplement their expensive smartphones with smartwatches that can cost hundreds of dollars. There’s a problem though with this train of thought: using a tiny smartwatch display to navigate through UIs can often be a test of your patience, which can instead have you reaching for your smartphone out of frustration. Samsung is looking to alleviate some of those frustrations not by making the physical display on future smartwatches larger, but by actually extending the display via the use of a miniature projector. The projector would be use to beam certain UI elements right onto the back of your hand or on your forearm,... Read more...
Earlier this month at CES, Samsung announced two new additions to its well-received Tizen-based Gear S2 smartwatch family. While Samsung launched its latest, circular-faced smartwatch family with the sporty $299 Gear S2 and more stately $349 Gear S2 Classic, the expanded lineup now includes two new color hues for the Galaxy S2 Classic: Rose Gold and Platinum. These new smartwatches, which are labeled as Gear S2 Classic New Edition, feature plated finishes layered atop the Gear S2 Classic’s stainless steel housing. The 18K Rose Gold model comes with an ivory leather band, while the Platinum version is offset nicely with a black leather band. But that’s not all, Samsung has also thrown in some... Read more...
It looks like there’s some big news to discuss with regards to Samsung’s Gear S2 Classic smartwatch. First and foremost, Samsung is adding two more finishes to complement the existing black metal finish: Platinum and Rose Gold. These finishes will be platings on top of the existing stainless steel housing, which should put it more in line with the similar Rose Gold and Gold finishes available on the Apple Watch Sport. In addition to the new two new finishes, Samsung is also introducing a number of new watch bands constructed of leather, steel and even nylon. But perhaps the biggest news to come out of CES pertaining to the Gear S2 (both the standard and Classic models) is that Samsung... Read more...
The nascent smartwatch market has delivered a number of near-winners thus far. The Apple Watch and Microsoft Band, for example, are better-than-average fitness trackers and smart timepieces. The 2nd generation Moto 360 is impressive from an aesthetics standpoint. The Huawei Watch hits the mark for those looking for a good-looking, functional, timepiece that also happens to feature smartphone notifications. And then, there's Samsung. In a bid to be first to market, the original Galaxy Gear was launched with a less-than-optimal design, poor battery life, and a camera that wasn't very useful. That was just over two years ago though, and the company has since popped out a multitude of wearables... Read more...

Samsung announced their latest smartwatches a couple of days ago, the Gear S2 and Gear S2 Classic. We’ve got all of the initial details and imagery from Samsung’s release posted here if you’d like to check them out. To quickly reiterate some particulars, both of these smartwatches feature 11.4mm thin casings and 1.2-inch, 360x360 displays that are complete circles, unlike the “flat tire” displays used on the Moto360. At the heart of the Gear S2 is an undisclosed Samsung-sourced 1GHz dual-core processor paired with 512MB of RAM. NFC technology is incorporated into the watches as well, which will support Samsung Pay in the near future. The Gear S2 and Gear S2 Classis are IP68 certified for dust... Read more...
Samsung just couldn’t let Google have all the spotlight today when it comes to smartwatches. Samsung has been teasing its Gear S2 for the past few weeks, but now the South Korean electronics giant is ready to give us the Full Monty on its reentry into the smartwatch market. We first got a quick glimpse of the upcoming Gear S2 smartwatch at Samsung’s Unpacked event for the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+ last week. As the days progressed, the round-faced smartwatch showed up again in Lookbook, where it was paraded around by fashion models. Now, were getting perhaps our best look yet at Samsung’s Apple Watch killer in a 30-second teaser video. Gone is the rectangular display that has dominated Samsung’s previous smartwatch efforts; in its place is a fully circular display (flat tires need not apply here). Compared to the last smartwatch that Samsung released — the Gear S — before going on a lengthy hiatus, the Gear S2 is a breath of fresh air when it comes to looks.... Read more...
Samsung still isn't ready to launch its next smartwatch, the Gear S2, though it did make sure to tease everyone with a couple of revealing images tossed into a promotional "Lookbook" of mobile devices. Most of the pages are filled with photos of the company's just announced Galaxy S6 Edge+ and Note5 devices, but the round smartwatch is clearly visible on the wrists of fashion models in two of the stills. You may know the Gear S2 as the Gear A or its codename Orbis. All three monikers refer to the same device, which Samsung designed to make a fashion statement. According to the commentary in the Lookbook, Samsung wanted to take a classic design and spruce it up for the modern era, and then combine... Read more...
