It looks like the whole smartwatch category might have legs, after all. Rumor has it Apple is getting ready to launch a new Apple Watch line while Samsung, it's main rival in all things mobile, has sent out invitations to members of the press for what it strongly hints will be a smartwatch announcement. The invitation doesn't actually mention a smartwatch, but unless it's planning to release a clock, there's little else it could be.Samsung's press conference is scheduled to take place on Thursday, September 1, at IFA 2016. The invitation has clock hands, which we presume to mean the launch of the Gear S3. The rumored Gear S3 will allegedly feature the same round design as its predecessor,... Read more...
Just as video killed the radio star, smartphones played a big role in nearly eliminating the market for wrist watches. Ironically enough, smartphone makers are now trying to bring back the watch, albeit with smart functionality. One of the more active in this pursuit is Samsung, which is getting ready to launch its Gear S smartwatch in the U.S. next week, just as previously promised. The Gear S will be available a week from today (November 7), though if you're unfamiliar with the device, don't expect to see any traces of Android. Samsung is rolling with its own Tizen operating system, an open source platform based on Linux and developed in part with Intel. "Samsung continues to shape the wearable... Read more...
The wearable revolution is underway, and sometime before the winter months hit, you'll see an increasing number of people talking and tapping on the top side of their wrists. The reason? Samsung's Gear S sports a rectangular 2-inch curved face with Super AMOLED panel and 480x360 resolution; the watch as a whole measures 39.9 by 58.1 x 12.5 millimeters (1.57 x 2.28 x 0.49 inches). It rocks a dual-core processor clocked at 1GHz, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage. 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1,... Read more...
Although IFA doesn't kick off until next week, a few companies are spilling the beans on what's ahead... ahead of schedule. Samsung's joining that crowd, this week introducing the newest smartwatch in its arsenal: the Gear S. While the display isn't round, it is gently curved to fit flush against your wrist, and overall, it looks pretty striking. There's a 2-inch curved Super AMOLED display, but that's just the start. The real interesting nuggets are these: for starters, it runs Tizen instead of Android Wear. Secondly, there's a 3G modem inside, so that it's capable of handling basic calls, messages, and Internet activity even if your smartphone isn't nearby. There's also a Bluetooth and Wi-Fi...
