The electric vehicle (EV) wars about to really heat up. General Motors has thrown down the gauntlet with the Chevrolet Bolt, announcing early this morning that the vehicle will have an EPA combined driving range of 238 miles per charge. That’s well in excess of the 200+ mile range that GM has been promising all along, and compares favorably to the projected 215+ mile range of the upcoming Tesla Model 3. 238 miles of range puts the Bolt well ahead of contemporaries like the Nissan Leaf, Ford Focus Electric and the Chevrolet Spark EV — all of which have driving ranges of less than 100 miles per charge. General Motors raised more than a few eyebrows when it unveiled the quirky-looking Chevrolet Bolt electric vehicle concept last month at the Detroit Auto show. In a world where most “affordable” EVs have a driving range of around 80 to 90 miles before they must be recharged; an EV for the “everyman” that can travel 200 miles on a charge was music to the ears of many people.
