Yesterday, Hewlett-Packard announced its Spectre Folio, which the company envisions as a thorough rethink of the modern-day PC. The Spectre Folio takes on a 2-in-1 convertible form-factor and uses a combination of CNC-machined magnesium and aluminum along with high-quality, hand-crafted leather to create a true premium device. We were able to get our hands on the Spectre Folio at the event, and we must say, it looks just as good in person as it does in the official press images.  The leather really sets the convertible apart from the rest of the me-too designs in this segment, and actually serves as an integral part of hinge mechanism for the different operating modes. As we've... Read more...
It seems these days that 2-in-1 Windows 10 convertibles are a dime a dozen with competent entries from big names in the industry like ASUS, Hewlett-Packard, Lenovo and even Microsoft. But Hewlett-Packard is looking to drive further into the premium 2-in-1 segment with its new Spectre Folio, and it's definitely a good-looking machine. With the 13.3-inch Spectre Folio, HP says that it has adopted "manucrafturing" due to the fact that the device combines the best in precision machinery with handcrafted materials like tanned, full-grain leather. The primary structure of the machine is crafted from magnesium, but it's wrapped in that gorgeous leather that helps to creates its own hinge and with... Read more...
Dell's XPS 13 family has always been highly regarded for performance-value and solid build quality, and now the company is upping the value quotient with a new lower-end SKU. Priced at a low $899, this is the lowest entry point yet for an XPS 13 equipped with an 8th generation Core processor. That price gets you a Core i3-8130U processor paired with 4GB of RAM, a 128GB SSD and a 13.3-inch 1080p Infinity Edge display. Although the $899 price point is a new low for an 8th generation Core SKU, an XPS 13 with a Core i3-7100U can be had for just $799, while the next step up is a Core i5-8520U configuration for $949.99 with 8GB RAM and 128GB SSD. In addition to the XPS 13 SKU, Dell has... Read more...
Intel is launching a new wave of 8th generation Core processors for thin-and-light notebooks and 2-in-1 convertibles that fall in the U-Series and Y-Series processor families. At their core, the Whiskey Lake-U and Amber Lake-Y processors are fundamentally architecturally identical to Kaby Lake Refresh processors. That means that these processors are still built on 14nm process technology -- Intel won't be making a shift to 10nm for its consumer processors until late 2019. You can see the chart below for the new lineup of Whiskey Lake-U and Amber Lake-U parts; Intel has mainly focused on increasing boost clocks, which should help single-threaded performance across-the-board: We were... Intel is nearly ready to roll out a new family of low-power Core Y-Series processors, and they could find their way into a number of popular devices in the coming months. There are three processors SKUs that have been revealed, and they all fall under the Amber Lake family. According to Romanian website NextLab501, the three processors will officially launch during the third quarter and are considered part of the 8th generation Core family. All three processors are dual-core parts, HyperThreading-enabled, and incorporate Intel HD Graphics 615: Core m3-8100Y  Base Clock: 1.1GHz All-Core Boost: 2.7GHz Single-Core Boost: 3.4GHz Core i5-8200Y Base Clock: 1.3GHz All-Core Boost: 3.2GHz...
