Late last week, we came across an ASRock motherboard box shot that alleged Intel's H310 Express chipset will have support for upcoming 9th generation Core Coffee Lake Refresh processors. Today, MSI is providing evidence that the Intel Z370 chipset will also support the new CPUs. Confirmation of the support came courtesy of a news update posted to MSI's website that states, "MSI, the world leading gaming motherboard manufacturer, is pleased to announce new BIOS updates for MSI Z370 motherboards to support Intel 9000 processors. The new BIOS updates are all fully optimized for Intel 9000 processors." The full list of supported MSI Z370 motherboards is seen below: This... Read more...
We've got some good news for hardcore PC enthusiasts that have resorted to delidding their Intel processors in order to achieve more robust overclocking results. According to fresh reports, Intel has decided to use solder between the integrated heat spreader (IHS) and the die on the upcoming Core i9-9900K and other 9th generation Core processors instead of the usual thermal compound. Enthusiasts often turn to delidding to apply a more efficient thermal compound or to get more direct contact when going crazy with more serious cooling methods. German publication Golem.de first brought attention to Intel's decision to use solder, and other sources are claiming to have received... Read more...
Yesterday, we received official confirmation from Intel that its incoming 9th generation Core family is still based on Coffee Lake architecture, which underpins current 8th generation processors. A total of 7 processors were revealed, ranging from the Core i3-9100 to the Core i5-9600K. Now, another official Intel document has been posted (which has since been removed) that shows the official specs of the processors revealed yesterday. There aren't many surprises considering that these are all Coffee Lake parts, but we do see that core clocks increase about 100MHz across the board for the 9th gen parts versus their 8th gen counterparts, while boost clocks are seeing an... It appears that Intel has today given us the first confirmation of upcoming 9th generation Core processors. While it was previously assumed that Intel's 9th generation Core family would be built using 10nm process technology (which has seen numerous delays), it appears that the first parts will be part of a Coffee Lake Refresh. New 9th generation processors were found within an Intel PDF that provides Microcode Update Guidance for its processors. Lumped in with the 8th generation Coffee Lake S processors were the following: Core i3-9000 Core i3-9100 Core i5-9400 Core i5-9400T Core i5-9500 Core i5-9600 Core i5-9600K The Core i3 processors have quad cores with...
