The Yenko uses a Camaro SS as a base (and that’s a mighty fine base we might add), but uses a stroker kit to take engine displacement from 6.2 liters to 6.8 liters. In standard SS duty, the 6.2-liter LT-1 V8 produces 455 horsepower and 455 lb-ft of torque. SVE’s 6.8-liter masterpiece, however, gains help from a supercharger and adopts the LT-4’s fuel system and injectors to produce a hefty 800 horsepower and 750 lb-ft of torque.
For comparison, The Camaro ZL1 makes 650 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque, while the Challenger SRT Hellcat produces 707 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque. Buyers can choose from a 6-speed manual transmission or a quick-shifting 8-speed automatic. And you’ll of course find the usual niceties like Magnetic Ride Control and Brembo brakes. Also along for the ride are 20-inch 5-spoke retro-style wheels that are shod with Goodyear Eagle F1 tires.
There is no real mention of any specific suspension upgrades compared to the SS, so even with all the power that this Yenko Camaro will send to the rear wheels, it remains to be seen if it will be able to dance with a Camaro ZL1 around a track.
SVE says that it will only build 50 2017 Yenko Chevrolet Camaros this year, and all will come backed with a 3-year/36,000-mile powertrain warranty. We should also mention that SVE will charge you $40,000 for this Yenko madness — and that doesn’t include the cost of the donor Camaro SS.
