Xiaomi Announces Mi MIX 2S Powered By Snapdragon 845, Launches March 27

Mi MIX 2S

The Mobile World Congress (MWC) trade show in Barcelona officially kicks off tomorrow (Monday, February 26), but as is often the case with these kinds of events, companies are anxious to reveal what new products and services they have in store. Count Xiaomi among the them. The Chinese smartphone maker is planning to announce a new flagship smartphone, the Mi MIX 2S, powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 845 processor.

According to a Twitter post by Donovan Sung, Xiaomi's global spokesperson, the new phone will launch on March 27, 2018. In addition to the Snapdragon 845 SoC that the Mi MIX 2S is rocking underneath the hood, Sung praised the phone's all glass front side, saying it is the "world's most beautiful full screen display smartphone."
The Mi MIX 2S is a successor to the Mi Mix 2 that launched last September. Beyond what little information Sung provided, the rest of the phone is a mystery, at least for the time being. We can assume it will match or exceed the Mi MIX 2 in every aspect. That phone sports a previous generation Snapdragon 835 SoC and 6GB of RAM, which powers the device's 5.99-inch display with a 2160x1080 resolution (18:9 aspect ratio).

Xiaomi's current flagship phone also boasts 128GB of storage and features a ceramic body with an "aerospace-grade aluminum alloy frame." With an full screen display of its own, the fingerprint sensor on the Mi MIX 2 sits on the back of the device, right underneath the rear camera.

Given that Xiaomi is dubbing its upcoming phone as an "S" model, we can further speculate that it won't blow the Mi MIX 2S out of the water. Similar to how Apple fills the gap between major phone upgrades with "S" models of its own, the Mi MIX 2S is likely to be an incremental update, with the biggest change being the bump in processor power.
