Catch Qualcomm's Snapdragon Tech Summit Broadcast Live From Beautiful Maui, HI
According to Qualcomm, it will be live broadcasting its summit on December 4th, 5th, and 6th starting at 2pm EST on each day. You'll be able to watch the live streams from Qualcomm's 2018 Tech Summit Event Hub, which can be accessed directly here.
Now you might be asking, what exactly does Qualcomm have in store for enthusiasts at this event? Well, we have a few guesses, and it will likely revolve around at least three key platforms for 2019. For starters, we can expect a follow-up to the Snapdragon 845, which has been rumored to be called the Snapdragon 8150. However, reports this week have said that this name is actually in doubt, so we'll have to see what Qualcomm springs on us next week (for now, we're going to still call it Snapdragon 8150).
The Snapdragon 8150, which is based on the 7nm process node, is rumored to have an intriguing octa-core configuration: 1+3+4. There will be a single high-performance core that will be joined by three general purpose cores. To handle basis tasks, there will be four low-performance cores. In addition, the SoC will have a powerful onboard neural processing unit (NPU).
We're also expecting to see a follow-up to the Snapdragon 850 processor that is exclusive to Windows on ARM convertibles that have slowly made their way to the market. We don't know much about this particular SoC, but we expect additional performance improvements over the Snapdragon 850, while also being built on a 7nm process node.
Yet another product that we'll probably hear much more about is Qualcomm's 5G modems that surely will be found in quite a few flagship devices in 2019. Qualcomm's first 5G modem is the Snapdragon X50, and we know for certain that it's found in the 5G Moto Mod for the Motorola Z3. What's unclear at this time is if Qualcomm will be offering versions of its upcoming smartphone or Windows on ARM chips with integrated 5G modems (without needing to add a separate chip).
With that being said, stay tuned as a lot of our questions will be answered next week.
