Verizon To Start Selling Apple iPad + MiFi Bundles

The iPad! It's coming to Verizon Wireless! Call your parents! Call your friends! Oh, wait...it's not what you think. Not exactly, anyway. As of now, there is no CDMA-equipped iPad. The only iPad with 3G is one that functions on a GSM network, or AT&T's network in the U.S. But sure enough, VZW will soon be stocking Apple's white-hot tablet. So, what's the real deal?

Verizon Wireless will offer three bundles, all featuring an iPad Wi-Fi model and a Verizon MiFi 2200 Intelligent Mobile Hotspot, for a suggested retail price of $629.99 for iPad Wi-Fi 16GB + MiFi, $729.99 for iPad Wi-Fi 32GB + MiFi and $829.99 for iPad Wi-Fi 64GB + MiFi. Read that over again. The only iPad model that Verizon will sell is the Wi-Fi only model. In other words, this isn't an iPad that has a CDMA module built-in, and you'll still have to power on that MiFi separately in order to get it online when a Wi-Fi spot isn't available. It's not the most convienient, that's for sure, but it does give users another option if they travel to places where AT&T 3G service is lackluster.

Verizon Wireless is offering a monthly access plan to iPad customers of up to 1GB of data for just $20 a month. In addition, Verizon Wireless will also offer all three iPad Wi-Fi models on a stand-alone basis. This is probably a good move for Apple, getting the iPad into another major sales channel just as Windows 7 and Android tablets are also landing. When you think about it, now Verizon will be selling both the Android-based Galaxy Tab and the iPad. We wonder which one will sell more?
