Most people hear the word BitTorrent and immediately think piracy, but there are legitimate uses for the technology according to a group of TorrentSpy founders who are now founding a new company, FileRights.
The goal of FileRights is to allow companies who feel their content is being distributed in a fashion that isn't beneficial to them to sign up and report the files which would hopefully be removed quickly.
"FileRights was started by some of the same people that run the Torrentspy search engine and who are fighting a copyright lawsuit brought by the major motion picture studios regarding the issue of whether dot torrent files manifested in search results, which can be used by site visitors to locate infringing works on the net, constitutes secondary liability."
