Target Officially Selling Apple iPad Starting October 3

Another rumor confirmed. The Apple iPad, which has been flying off of Apple's own shelves for months now, finally has enough extra stock to find itself on other shelves. As was rumored weeks ago, the mega-retailer Target will begin to sell the tablet starting on October 3. It will be a nationwide rollout, and Target customers will be able to select from all of the possible models, including the Wi-Fi + 3G models that will require activation with AT&T from home.

Mark Schindele, senior vice president, merchandising, Target, was understandably excited to announce the news: "Target is very excited to offer the revolutionary iPad to our guests nationwide. We are committed to providing our guests with the best products and we think iPad will be at the top of our guests’ holiday shopping lists."

This couldn't come at a more perfect time for Apple and Target. Target will benefit from huge impulse buy sales when customers wander over into the electronics section while doing their holiday shopping, and Apple has yet another huge supply channel to sell through. Far more consumers visit Target stores than Apple stores, and since Target already sold iPods, this just seems like a natural fit. We only wonder if the Android and Windows 7 tablets to come will have a similarly great distribution chain lined up...
