Super Mario Run For iOS Updated With Yoshi, More Free Content And New Buildings
Despite some complaints about the payment model, Super Mario Run has been a huge hit on iOS where the mobile game made its debut last December. It has been downloaded more than 78 million times, with 40 million of those downloads taking place in the first four days of availability. To keep the downloads (and revenue) coming, Nintendo has updated the game on iOS with some new content.
Super Mario Run version 2.0.0 introduces new playable characters, including different colored Yoshis. Nintendo notes that gamers can play Toad Rally with a Yoshi of a particular color to get more Toads of that same color. Players will also find new buildings that are being added in an upcoming event.
Perhaps the best news of all is that more of the game is now available to play for free. Rather than running into a rather hefty $10 paywall after completing just the first three levels, Nintendo added Bowser's challenges. By completing one of his challenges players can unlock the previous locked course (1-4) where they can go toe-to-toe with Bowser. In addition, players who clear course 1-4 will get new courses to play in Toad Rally.
On the newly playable courses, red Toads will also be joined by blue and green ones to cheer you on!," Nintendo says. "You will be able to get buildings from the Shop that you previously couldn't using those blue and green Toads. Among the buildings you can get is the Blue Yoshi's House, which lets Blue Yoshi join your adventure!"
Other additions and improvements include:
- Easier to get Rally Tickets in the Bonus Game House
- Easy Mode can now be selected at the entrance of World Tour courses
- The appearance rates of different colored Toads in Toad Rally has been adjusted
- Adjustments have been made to the tutorial to make it easier to understand
- Easy of play has been improved
