Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium Preorders Now Live With Freebie Xperia Ear Duo Earbuds
Do you need a new smartphone and have $1,000 burning a hole in your pocket? If so, you can resolve both problems by heading over to Amazon and pre-ordering Sony's Xperia XZ2 Premium, the company's newest flagship phone. To help soften the blow, Sony is including a set of its Xperia Ear Duo wireless earbuds, which retail for $280 when purchased separately.
Oddly enough, the pre-order listing on Amazon doesn't mention the earbuds. However, Sony stated in a press release last enough that they would be included when purchasing the pricey handset from Amazon, so we are going on the assumption that Sony (and Amazon) will in fact make good on that promise. For some, the inclusion of $280 earbuds with a $1,000 handset could be the deciding factor.
Sony's also banking on the Xperia XZ2 Premium's high-end specs to draw buyers who are willing to spend a grand on a smartphone. It starts with the handset's 5.8-inch display. The size is not anything special in and of itself, but it has a 4K resolution and high dynamic range (HDR) support. Sony further claims the Xperia XZ2 Premium automatically up-converts standard definition content into "near HDR-quality experiences."
The phone is powered by Qualcomm's flagship Snapdragon 845 processor. It also features 6GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage, the latter of which seems to be on the low side for a smartphone in this price range—we'd like to see at least 128GB, and preferably 256GB.
Sony's also pushing camera performance as a selling point, as smartphone makers often do. As it applies to the Xperia XZ2 Premium, Sony says it's the first phone ever to pair two proprietary camera sensors—a state-of-the-art 19-megapixel memory-stacked sensor and a 12-megapixel black-and-white sensor—to act as a single dual-camera module. Both sensors process data in real-time through Aube, which is a new fusion image processing technology Sony developed.
"Incorporating Sony’s first dual-camera and the Aube fusion image signal processor (ISP) system, the latest in 4K HDR display technology, and overall performance improvements, the Xperia XZ2 Premium is a no-compromise, high-performance smartphone that combines the immersive innovations for optimizing mobile entertainment experiences that the Xperia XZ2 is known for with the ability to capture and showcase stunningly beautiful videos and photos that go even beyond what the human eye can see," Sony says.
The version that is up for pre-order is the unlocked model in Chrome Silver. It releases on July 30, 2018.
