Sony Launches Its First 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Player, But You Won’t Be Able To Buy One
Sony is currently leering at DIYer’s with “Na, na, na, na, na, you can’t catch me.” The company recently unveiled its first 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player. The device, however, will need to be custom installed by automation system vendors such as Control4, Crestron, and Savant. Yukio Ishikawa, Director of Home Entertainment Systems for Sony, remarked, “The new UBP-X1000ES player has been long awaited by custom installers who desire a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player that provides a ‘one-stop’ solution for their clients’ premium entertainment needs.”
The X1000ES is compatible with Ultra HD Blu-ray discs as well as 4K resolutions and HDR. The device reportedly provides up to twice the color range and one hundred times the dynamic range. The X1000ES can also upscales 1080p content to near 4K 60p resolution.
The X1000ES is compatible with many optical disc format, including DVD Video and DVD Audio, CD and SA-CD, Blu-ray 3D, and BD-ROM media. Unfortunately, your old-school VHS tapes will need to stay in your basement.
The audio on this device is also potentially top-notch. The UBP-X1000ES is compatible with Dolby Atmos and DTS:X object-oriented audio compatible receivers. Its 32-bit processing DAC works with DSD (at up to 11.2 MHz) and PCM (at up to 192kHz) Hi-Res Music files.
As we mentioned earlier, the UBP-X1000ES is being offered exclusively to the custom installer channel. Sony argues that this is due to the complex nature of the installation. Installers would also be able to perform remote maintenance through a cloud-based network management.
The UBP-X1000ES will be available in Spring 2017. Prices will be announced at a later date.
