SoftLayer Expands Selection of Solid State Drives

50GB, 100GB, and 200GB Micron SSDs Provide New Gains in Performance

DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--SoftLayer Technologies®, the innovation leader in on-demand Cloud and Dedicated hosting, today announced the availability of MICRON RealSSD™ P300 solid state drives (SSDs) in 50GB, 100GB, and 200GB capacities. The new SSDs provide reliable and secure enterprise-class storage ideal for high-performance and data-intensive applications, such as databases requiring fast read/write performance.

“From the day we added the first SSDs to our portfolio of hardware solutions, customer response has been exceptional. And once they got a taste for the performance advantages the technology provides, they couldn’t wait to get higher capacity drives to take that performance even farther,” said Sam Fleitman, Chief Operations Officer for SoftLayer. “We chose the MICRON SSDs because they not only answer the call for higher capacity, they also bring with them incredible new performance features.”

The selected SSDs are the first in the market to leverage the SATA III 6Gbps interface and feature single-level cell (SLC) NAND flash to provide exceptional performance and low latency, with sequential read speeds of up to 360Mbps and up to 45,000 random write input/output operations per second (IOPS).

“We continuously research and test new hardware in order to find and deploy the most innovative, leading-edge technologies,” Mr. Fleitman said. “We’re proud to offer the new Micron SSDs, and the competitive edge it will give our customers for their business operations.”
