Samsung Shows Off Galaxy NX Android Camera with Interchangeable Lens, New ATIV Windows 8 Tablets
Samsung's Premiere 2013 event in London is well underway and as you might expect, product announcements are coming in fast and furious. One of the new items Samsung unveiled at the event is the Galaxy NX, purportedly the world's first interchangeable lens camera with 3G/4G LTE and Wi-Fi connectivity baked in. According to Samsung, the Galaxy NX combines cutting edge optical performance with connectivity capabilities with a bevy of Android applications, all in a single handheld device.
"The Galaxy NX reflects the unique needs of a user who needs to take professional photos and share them immediately in any situation. For those who want to express themselves and the exciting moments that make up their lives quickly, easily and on the go, the Galaxy NX is an ideal choice," said Myoung Sup Han, Senior Vice President and Head of the Digital Imaging Business, Samsung Electronics.
Not only does the Galaxy NX connect to Wi-Fi hotspots and offer support for 3G/4G LTE, it also boasts a Photo Suggest feature that provides location-based recommendations of popular photography spots, which itself is sourced from a massive library of images taken by fellow photographers around the globe.
As to the actual hardware and surrounding feature-set, the Galaxy NX boasts a 20.3-megapixel (effective) APS-C CMOS sensor, 4.8-inch HD TFT display, 1.6GHz quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, DRIMe IV Image Signal Processor, Advanced Hybrid Auto Focus (AF), 1/6000 sec shutter speed, 8.6fps shooting, 100-25600 ISO range, 16GB of internal memory, microSD card slot, 4360mAh battery, and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.
The ATIV Tab 3 is a tablet with the power of a PC running Windows 8, and according to Samsung, it's the thinnest of its kind measuring just 8.2mm (0.32 inches) thick. It's also fairly lightweight at just 550g (1.21 pounds). Other features include a 10.1-inch HD (1366x768) display, Intel Atom Z2760 processor, 2GB of LPDDR2 RAM, 64GB eMMC storage, 720p HD webcam, micro USB 2.0 port, micro HDMI output, microSD card slot, and up to 10 hours of run time. It will come pre-loaded with Office Home & Student.
Samsung also introduced its ATIV Q tablet. The ATIV Q isn't quite as slim, though it's dimensions are also thin and light, measuring 327 by 217.8 by 13.9 millimeters (12.87 by 8.57 by 0.55 inches) and weighing 1.29kg (2.84 pounds). The convertible tablet's claim to fame, however, is that it allows users to enjoy both Windows 8 and Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean on the same device. Users have full access to Android apps via Google Play, and can also transfer files from Windows 8 to Android.
Another standout feature of the ATIV Q is its 13.3-inch touchscreen display with QHD+ (3200x1800) resolution. That's even higher than Google's Chromebook Pixel. Flanking the display is an Intel Core i5 processor, Intel HD Graphics 4400, 4GB of DDR3L processor, 128GB SSD, 720p HD webcam, USB 3.0 and 2.0 ports (one each), micro HDMI output, SD card slot, headphone/microphone combo jack, and of course Windows 8.
Samsung hasn't yet announced pricing or availability for any of these products.
