Samsung Galaxy S7 And S7 Edge Flagships To Include Free Gear VR Headset Through June 19th

If you missed your chance to preorder a Samsung Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 Edge and receive a free Gear VR headset, it appears that the train is pulling into the station again. In celebration of Father’s Day, Samsung is once again throwing in the Gear VR freebie for flagship smartphone purchases.

Unfortunately, getting the free Gear VR isn’t as easy as receiving the peripheral while making a retail purchase of a smartphone. Instead, you’ll have to purchase (or lease) the smartphone, visit Samsung’s promotional website and fill out an online claim form. Once your claim has been approved, Samsung will mail your Gear VR headset, which will also come with six games straight from the Oculus store.

We should also note that this current promotion isn’t just limited to the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge. Samsung has extended the offer to anyone that purchases a Galaxy S6 Edge+, Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy S6, or Galaxy Note 5 from their wireless carrier or a participating retail partner.

The free Gear VR promotion began today and will run through June 19th.

The Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge have won critical acclaim for their sleek designs (see our review here), stellar performance and upgraded capabilities over their predecessors (namely the inclusion of a microSD slot and the return of waterproofing). The Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge have made a huge splash in the U.S. market, as the two combined for just under 6 percent of all smartphone sales during Q1. In, fact, the Galaxy S7 went on to become the fifth best-selling smartphone in the U.S. during Q1 despite the fact that it launched so late in the quarter (March 11th).

The Gear VR has been a minor sales success in its own right, having found a home in over a million households since it first launched.
