Samsung's CJG5 144Hz Curved Gaming Monitors Come In 32-inch And 27-inch Flavors

Samsung is showing off a pair of new curved gaming displays at Gamescom 2018; both of the monitors fall into the CJG5 family with the C32JG5 coming in with a 32-inch screen size and the C27JG5 featuring a 27-inch screen. Both screens have WQHD resolution, a curved screen, and a 144Hz refresh rate with high contrast ratios. Both displays will launch globally in Q3 with US pricing announced closer to launch. European pricing is reported to convert to the $400-$500 range, but pricing could be lower than that in the States.

What we do know about pricing from Samsung is that the monitors will be "affordable" and if the pricing rumors for Europe are true, affordable they will be. WQHD resolution is 2560 x 1440 and the spec'd contrast ratio is 3000:1. The 1800R curvature of the screens promises to minimize eye strain by reducing the change in the user's focal distance.

"Due to the rapidly increasing demands of gaming monitors, we sought to offer competitively-priced gaming monitors for more users to benefit from premium technology," said Seog-gi Kim, Executive Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. "With the technological expertise that we have accumulated throughout the years, we are making efforts to accelerate the gaming features such as 144Hz and high WQHD resolution, which will be appreciated by the mass market."

Both displays are dark silver in color and have a 16:9 aspect ratio. Viewing angles are 178-degrees vertical and horizontal and the response time of the panels is 4ms gtg with Samsung claiming a 1ms MPRT (moving picture response time). Typical brightness is rated at 300 cd/m2. Connectivity includes a pair of HDMI ports with one 2.0 and one 1.4 port. A DisplayPort 1.2 is integrated along with a headphone port.

Game and cinema modes are built in to automatically optimize the screen for black gamma level, contrast, sharpness, and saturation for watching movies or playing games. Individual settings can be accessed via an OSD. Once we learn more about U.S. pricing, we'll be sure to update you on that information.
