Clueless Royale: Why Prince Harry Says Fortnite Should Be Banned

Prince Harry has been in the news a lot lately mostly because of his marriage and forthcoming child with American actress Meghan Markle. However, the prince has taken time away from his royal duties to criticize the incredibly popular video game Fortnite. The royal thinks that Fortnite is too addictive, especially for young players. The price isn't alone; others think that Fortnite is corrupting the minds of players and not just impressionable younglings.

"That game shouldn't be allowed. Where is the benefit of having it in your household," Prince Harry said while speaking at a YMCA event in west London. "It's created to addict, an addiction to keep you in front of a computer for as long as possible. It's so irresponsible.

"It's like waiting for the damage to be done and kids turning up on your doorsteps and families being broken down."

Fortnite has been around since 2017 and bumped PUBG out of the top spot in the battle royale genre soon after launch. Fortnite developers Epic Games is now getting a taste of its own medicine with the EA game Apex Legends currently overtaking Fortnite in streams and players. Fortnite revenue reportedly plunged 48% after Apex Legends launched.

Fortnite had 250 million registered players as of the end of March 2019 according to reports, and the developer said in March that Fortnite had 10.8 million players at any given time. Fortnite is estimated to be worth as much as $12 billion as a franchise for Epic Games.

Prince Harry also spoke out against social media stating that it can be "more addictive than alcohol and drugs." Interestingly, Prince Harry has admitted in the past that he enjoys playing video games.
