Origin PC Unveils EON15-S Kaby Lake Gaming Notebook With eSports Ready GeForce GTX 1050 Ti
We here at HotHardware love a good gaming PC, and the folks over at Origin PC are doing their best to deliver a gaming notebook that packs quite a bit of punch with a respectable price tag. Meet the EON15-S — a 15.6-inch class notebook that hits all the right notes with a starting price of just $999.
The EON15-S’s 15.6-inch IPS panel features a FHD (1920x1080) resolution and is backed by NVIDIA’s entry-level, Pascal-based GeForce GTX 1050 Ti graphics card with 4GB of memory. While the GTX 1050 isn’t capable of pushing 4K graphics at ultra settings like the monster GTX 1080 or GTX 1080 Ti, it should be up to the task of handling eSports titles at the native 1080p resolution. The EON15-S is capable of supporting up to four displays — including the one built-in to the machine — at the same time.
Powering the machine are Intel Kaby Lake-based processors, with base machines getting a Core i3-7100H. Ponying up some extra dough will get you into a Core i5-7300HQ, while top-ranging systems come loaded with a Core i7-7700HQ. Up to 32GB of DDR4 memory is supported, and you can configure the gaming notebook with up 6TB of storage (m.2 SSD support is also included).
We should also mention that the EON15-S measures just 1-inch thick and weighs in at 5 pounds. Battery life is rated for up to 6 hours, which is respectable for a gaming notebook in this class with discrete graphics. You’ll find plenty of connectivity options includes two USB 3.0 ports, one USB 2.0 port and a single USB Type-C port for all of your peripherals that support the increasingly popular interface. And since this wouldn’t be a “true” gaming PC without a superfluous touch, the keyboard features customizable RGB backlighting.
“For many years ORIGIN PC has wanted to offer a customizable laptop with a great gaming experience and premium support that doesn't sacrifice quality and starts at a more accessible price point." said Origin PC CEO Kevin Wasielewski.
The EON15-S is available to order now from $999, and comes backed with free 24-7 lifetime U.S.-based support. Besides the usual hardware upgrades that will balloon the price of the machine, you’ll also be able to add optional automotive-grade paint with “any color or design of choice”.
