OnePlus 6 Leaked Photos Reveal Notched Display For Snapdragon 845 Flagship Phone

When Apple released its iPhone X with a conspicuous notch on the otherwise full front display panel, there was lots of pointing and laughing (particularly by Samsung). Notch or no notch, the iPhone X became Apple's "top-selling iPhone every week since it shipped in November" and led to a record quarterly revenue, the company announced earlier this month. The laughter has started to subside, however, and now players in the Android camp are taking a page from the iPhone X's unique design. Leaked photos that purportedly show a OnePlus 6 handset suggest that OnePlus is among the copycats.

ASUS is the other company that is taking inspiration from the iPhone X, to put it nicely. The company's recently unveiled ZenFone 5 is a blatant Android clone of Apple's flagship phone, complete with a notch in the top that houses the front-facing selfie camera, speaker, and various other sensors. ASUS even acknowledged the similarity, saying that even though "some people will say it's copying Apple," the company "cannot get away from what users want. You have to follow trends."

It seems OnePlus might be of the same mindset. A Chinese-language blog site posted images of what it claims is the OnePlus 6, and it too has a notch on the front of the display. The lighting is not anywhere close to ideal in the photos, which is really par for course when it comes to these things, unfortunately, but they show the design philosophy that OnePlus implemented for its next flagship phone (assuming the pics are legit, that is).

The overall design is a departure from previous OnePlus phones, and not just because of the notch. Switching out attention to the back of the handset, we can see that OnePlus went with a shiny glass construction. If things are what they appear to be, users would be wise to buy a case.

There's also a dual camera arrangement on the back, stacked vertically this time similar to Samsung's Galaxy S9+. An LED flash sits underneath them, and underneath all that is a fingerprint sensor, followed by the OnePlus logo situated a little above the center of the phone.

Going back to the front, the display shows the model number as P7819, and also indicates that there is 6GB of RAM, 64GB of onboard storage, and Android 8.1 Oreo running the show. We've also heard rumors that the OnePlus 6 is among the list of upcoming devices that will feature Qualcomm's top-of-the-line Snapdragon 845 processor. All we can do now is wait for an official announcement.
