If you are the proud owner of a OnePlus 3 or OnePlus 3T smartphone, we’ve got a treat of the dark chocolate and sweet creamy filling variety for you today. OnePlus announced this morning that its first official release of Android 8.0 Oreo is now available for the above-mentioned smartphones via OxygenOS 5.0.

In mid-October, OnePlus offered up its first Android Oreo public beta, and it appears that everything progressed nicely with the pilot program since the first regular production (stable) build is hitting roughly a month later.

OnePlus list the following "highlights" that you will find with this initial public release of OxygenOS 5.0:

  • System
    • Update to Android O (8.0)
    • Added Parallel Apps
    • Added Picture in Picture
    • Added Auto-fill
    • Added Smart text selection
    • New Quick Settings design
    • Updated security patch to September
  • Launcher
    • Added notification dots
    • New app folder design
    • Now able to upload photos directly to Shot on OnePlus

We should note, however, that OnePlus isn't exactly opening the floodgates when it comes to this initial OxygenOS 5.0 release. Instead, it is taking a slow and measured approach to ensure that any snags with this release are limited to a small sub-segment of the OnePlus 3/3T user base.

"As always, this OTA will be incremental," wrote OnePlus' Jimmy Z. "The OTA will reach a small percentage of users today, and we'll begin a broader rollout in a few days."

But what about those of you running the newer OnePlus 5, or will be scoring a swanky new OnePlus 5T in the coming weeks? The Android Oreo public beta for the OnePlus 5 will arrive later this month, and the final release is scheduled for "early 2018".
