OnePlus 3 Closed Beta Group Tastes Delicious Android Oreo OxygenOS Goodness
OnePlus has been cranking out some very nice Android smartphones over the last few years, and in the process has wooed many users away from stalwarts in the Android ecosystem like Samsung. Wth Android 8.0 Oreo now available, many OnePlus users have been wondering when their beloved device might get the update.
A new rumor is swirling that claims the closed beta group for the OnePlus 3 is now being seeded with the Oreo update. The update isn't coming in pure Oreo form mind you, it is an Android 8.0-based flavor of OxygenOS used by OnePlus. Before you get worried if you are using other OnePlus handsets, the report also claims that OnePlus 3T and OnePlus 5 users will be getting the update as part of their respective close beta programs as well.
With closed beta users going first, other folks part of other OnePlus beta programs will likely get the update closer to the end of September. That would presumably mean if no major issues are found during the beta program, regular users might get the update in October or November. OnePlus has made no official statement on general availability for Android Oreo.
There are reportedly issues right now (as you might expect) with the update being distributed to closed beta testers. The update is said to lack functioning NFC and the hot spot functionality is reportedly unstable. WiFi and Bluetooth are also said to have issues as of now. Spotty WiFi would be a deal breaker for most people, which is why only closed beta users can get it for now.
Android Oreo brings several nice new features to the Android ecosystem with things like PiP mode and improvements for battery life and security. The OnePlus 5 had a serious issues earlier this summer that caused it to reboot if a user had to dial 911; an OTA update was released in July to address that issue.
