OCZ Teases PCIe-Based Vector SSD with Barefoot 3 Controller

OCZ is planning to showcase several storage products this week at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, and among them is a pre-production version of its new flagship Vector SSD Series for PCI Express (PCIe) interfaces.

Armed with an Indilinx Barefoot 3 controller and the above mentioned PCIe interface, the latest Vector SSDs will offer improved input/output operations per second (IOPS) burst performance and superior real-world sustained performance compared to the SATA-based version. It doesn't matter if the data is compressed or uncompressed, OCZ claims the PCIe-based Vector SSD Series won't break a sweat either way.

"Residing directly on the PCIe bus, this new addition to the Vector Series provides lower latency to data, faster file transfers and boot-ups, expanded storage capacities, and an even quicker, more responsive experience over the already blazing fast SATA III-based Vector SSDs," OCZ says. "The combination of enhanced bandwidth and higher capacities make the Vector PCIe SSD Series ideal for power users, content creation and workstation applications."

Specific benchmark figures are not available at this time, nor is there any word on pricing or a release date. However, OCZ did say the Vector PCIe SSD Series will support Windows-based laptops, desktops, and workstations with 4 lanes of PCIe Gen 2 in full-height (FH) and half-height (HH) formats.
