NVIDIA SHIELD TV 4K Streamer Gains Software Upgrade 7.2 And $30 Holiday Discount

If you're the owner of an NVIDIA SHIELD TV 4K media streamer, then you're probably pretty happy with the steady onslaught of updates that add new software and functionality. NVIDIA continues its upgrade spree with SHIELD Software Experience Upgrade 7.2, which is rolling out starting today to owners.

As long as your SHIELD TV is on, your device should have the upgrade downloaded by the end of the day. NVIDIA says that SHIELD Software Experience Upgrade 7.2 brings with it the inclusion of the Amazon Music app, which joins a host of other streaming music services available on the platform including Google Play Music, Spotify and Pandora. NVIDIA notes, however, that the Amazon Music app will only be available to SHIELD TV owners residing in the United States.

Also along for the ride is support for SMBv3, which is Microsoft's protocol for connecting Windows clients/servers to share files and printers, automatic download/install for software updates, customizable Quick Settings, and the latest monthly Android security updates.

As an added bonus, for those that haven't already joined the SHIELD TV family -- or are looking to add another in your household -- NVIDIA has announced $30 discounts on its hardware. Here are the bundles (and their current pricing with the $30 discount applied) that are available via Amazon:

  • SHIELD TV Standard Edition (with remote): $149.00
  • SHIELD TV Gaming Edition (with remote and game controller): $169.00
  • SHIELD TV Smart Home Edition (with remote and SmartThings Link): $189.98

We should note that Amazon is also offering an additional 5 percent off with a clip coupon on the "Standard" and "Smart Home" Editions of the SHIELD TV.

NVIDIA says that the $30 discount on the SHIELD TV is available through December 24th, which should be plenty of time for you last-minute shoppers.
