N-Trig DuoSense Multi-Touch Solution Gains Android Support

N-trig has found a home on Android. Those who don't pay very close attention to underlying technologies may not even be familiar with the N-trig name, but they're responsible for a multi-touch technology by the name of DuoSense. Currently, it's only available on slates like the Dell Latitude XT and the HP Slate, enabling users to use both pen and finger input on a single display.

It's great for making a tablet more flexible, but there's been no support for the raft of Android tablets thus far. Today, that changes. The company confessed that Android is quickly becoming the OS of choice for the slate and mobile PC market, and it's just time to support it. Utilizing N-trig hardware, devices running over Android can expand conventional slate functionality by using both the DuoSense pen and multi-touch capabilities. The combination of DuoSense and Android opens up new windows of opportunity for the Android pen community to utilize the N-trig Digital Pencil to expand functionality from traditional media consumption and create pen-enabled applications for more precise and creative on-screen user interaction.

Beyond that, consumers are left to wonder what's really in store. The company did say that the DuoSense solution will be built into a number of Android slates in 2011, but no specific model names were mentioned. Hopefully at least a few of them will be revealed at CES next month.
