Nokia Shipping New Lumia Smartphones This Week

For whatever reason, Nokia seems to have gotten into the habit of announcing new products without revealing launch dates, leaving it up to the Internet to dig up rumors and speculate. That's been especially true of Nokia's Windows Phone 8 devices, so it's nice to see the Finnish phone maker finally breaking its silence. Here's what we now know.

The company's new Lumia devices will start showing up in some European markets this week, starting with France and Britain, which will begin carrying the Lumia 820 and 920 handsets. Sometime later, Russia and Germany will start selling the same devices, Nokia said.

Lumia 920

As for the United States, AT&T will start selling Lumia devices next month, and it's the only carrier that will offer the Lumia 920. As we reported yesterday, Verizon Wireless will offer the Lumia 822 (carrier specific version of the Lumia 820) in November (likely November 12) for $100. Finally, T-Mobile is jumping on the Lumia bandwagon next month as well, and will start selling the Lumia 810.

In other words, November is shaping up to be the month Lumia devices built around Microsoft's WP8 platform make a splash.
